Function

The intern must be able to commit to the full seven-month assignment and be available to work a designated weekly/hourly schedule. The training will include exposure to Charlotte Water Engineering division in addition to gaining job readiness skills.

Summary

The City of Charlotte, Charlotte Water Department is accepting applications for the Survey Technician Pipeline Academy position. This individual will work under the supervision of the Charlotte Water Engineering Division.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Applicants for this position will learn the following tasks as it pertains to the daily work
operations at Charlotte Water. The work will include operating survey instruments and data collectors to perform surveys for water and sewer route surveys, construction surveys, control surveys, and boundary surveys.

Operate survey instruments and data collectors to perform surveys for water and sewer route surveys, construction surveys, control surveys, and boundary surveys. 
Use surveying tools to collect ground data for Water and Sewer design.
Apply existing plans and recorded surveys to locate properties and other existing features along proposed route.
Use tools to clear line of sight.
Set documentation for construction of Water and Sewer Lines.
Work closely with different groups within the Engineering Division.
Maintain vehicle and equipment supplies.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Proficient with Microsoft Office

Minimum Qualifications

Post-secondary experience, current or recent graduate in an accredited college or university (Associates- Bachelors) with major course work in a related field of study specific to the departmental or work assignment.

Valid North Carolina Driver's License


Physical Requirements: Standing, walking, bending, and light lifting

Work Environment: While performing duties of this position, employees regularly work in outdoor field conditions with occasional office work as needed. 

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
