Function

This position has rotating shifts, starting with 3rd and at times may need to cover 1st or 2nd based on airport activities

Summary

The Aviation Department is seeking a coordinator to manage loading dock operation activities in the basement hallways and receiving areas of the terminal at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The loading dock coordinator ensures dock users comply with regulations and safety standard/practices.  Responsibilities include maintaining a safe and clean environment while planning, directing and controlling usage of the loading dock.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Work with tenant company representatives and stakeholders to manage schedule and new dock deliveries in scheduling software.  Maintain the dock schedule to stagger deliveries and avoid long wait times.
  2. Maintain open communications with tenant company representatives, and resolve issues as they occur to streamline deliveries.
  3. Oversee and coordinate activities of drivers while they are in the dock perimeter.
  4. Observe drivers unloading trucks to ensure they follow safe practices.  Maintain communication and situational awareness with delivery drivers to ensure the drivers unload and deliver goods in a timely manner. 
  5. Communicate and enforce rules of dock with all users. Keep paper copies onsite to distribute as needed to those who are unaware of the rules.
  6. Ensure that dock area is kept free of debris including empty crates, pallets, kegs and trash, to maintain an orderly environment.  Contact tenant company representatives housekeeping contractor as needed.
  7. Report safety hazards, and unsafe practices and procedures to tenant company representatives, and the Terminal Property Manager.
  8. Maintain records of preventative maintenance of dock equipment.
  9. Drive the truck drivers from the truck hold area (at end of Rental Car Road) to the loading dock, and back to the truck holding area.
  10. Ensure construction contractors do not impede loading dock entrance and roadway.
  11. Walk the terminal basement hallways to identify unsafe practices and safety hazards. Report problems to tenant company representatives, and the Terminal Property Manager.  [10% of time]
  12. Walk through terminal building and ramp area (closest to the terminal) to identify safety hazards (e.g. equipment left without oversight or protection), facility deficiencies (for ADA compliance), and needed repairs (e.g. broken seats). 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of and demonstrated use with using Word, Excel, and Outlook to complete reports and scheduling activities.
  • Ability to learn established scheduling software
  • Ability to coordinate the schedule and logistics of the dock in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and react to changing situations in a calm and professional manner.
  • Demonstrated skills to provide first-rate customer service and represent the Airport in a positive and professional manner.
  • Familiarity with safe work practices with regard to loading dock operations, and safe egress in the basement hallways of the terminal.
  • High-level of use for organizational and communication skills. 

Minimum Qualifications

High School Graduate or Equivalent and three years related work experience

OR

Associate's Degree and one year related work experience
