Summary

Performs journey level work installing, performing preventive maintenance on and repairing electrical and mechanical systems at Charlotte Douglas International Airport with an emphasis on conveyor and loading bridge systems.  Provides lead direction and training to other employees.  Performs other general building maintenance work incidental to above duties as necessary to keep buildings in working order.


General Information:
Works assigned shift, plus rotating stand by (on call), weekend and holiday duty.  Subject to calls back to work and shift variation during emergency/urgent operations. 
Valid driver’s license with no more than six points and ability to obtain and maintain City driving permit.
Certain criminal convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore exclude from employment.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

1. Plan and execute complex maintenance assignments that require knowledge of electrical and electronic systems. 
2. Installation, preventive maintenance, and repair of electrical and mechanical systems with an emphasis on conveyor and loading bridge systems, including specific tasks such as changing motors, bearings, gearbox reducers, and loading bridge tire repairs. 
3. Provide lead direction and training to other employees.
4. General building maintenance work incidental to above duties as necessary to keep buildings in working order.
5. Compile lists of equipment, tools and supplies needed.  Track and order parts to maintain inventory.
6. Operate cars, vans, lifts, bucket trucks and other heavy equipment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Thorough knowledge of electrical/mechanical systems such as PLCs, VFDs, start-stop stations and relay logic controls.
Skills to perform journey level work on electrical/mechanical systems.
Skills to read and write sufficiently to complete paperwork and read schematic designs and blueprints. 
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, contractors and tenants. 
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to effectively train and lead others.

Preferred Qualification

Skills in carpentry, painting and welding required.  Working knowledge of other building trades and general building maintenance preferred.  

Minimum Qualifications

High School Graduate or Equivalent and five years related work experience

OR

Associate's Degree and three years related work experience

AND

Required:  Electrical license; and/or PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) experience; and/or Automated electrical/electronic control experience (e.g. VFDs (variable frequency drives), start-stop stations, relay logic controls).
