Summary

The Sanitation Equipment Operator Senior employee will primarily operate an automated sanitation vehicle, with the possibility of operating a rear-end loading sanitation vehicle.  The vehicle will be used to collect residential waste, yard waste, business garbage and other related debris.

Hours: 6:30am – Until Complete

Major Duties and Responsibilities

· Operating Automated Collection vehicle collecting residential waste such as household trash & other debris

· Daily inspection of assigned equipment for readiness & safety

· Completion of assigned collection routes in safe & timely manner

· Performing related manual labor tasks such as lifting & emptying containers

· Frequent outside exposure under all weather conditions

· May serve as lead person to two or more people on crew

· Ability to operate additional equipment such rear-end loading or other vehicles when necessary

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

· Valid Class A or B CDL

· Ability to obtain & maintain City driving permit

· Experience in operation of heavy equipment

· Knowledge of traffic laws, regulations, safety precautions and work hazards involved in operation of equipment

· Ability to lift & carry 100 lbs.

· Read and follow street maps & driving routes

· Follow written and/or verbal instructions

· Works assigned shift and may be required to assist in multiple areas

· Subject to overtime

· Must also be able to work nights, weekends or other unusual hours as needed in support of special events or emergency response

· Must be able to work holidays

Preferred Qualification

· Previous manual labor experience

Minimum Qualifications

Five years related work experience

OR

High School Graduate or Equivalent and three years related work experience

AND

Required:  CDL

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte.
