Function

Graphic Designer - Temporary Employee

Summary

This position is a temporary employee position for 4 months, with a minimum of 30 hours per week. This position will report to the Public Affairs Manager. Charlotte Water is looking for a talented and knowledgeable designer with fresh, creative ideas and an excellent eye for detail.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Create social media graphics in various sizes for Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Linked In as requested by Communication Team members
Track progress on graphics requests on the editorial calendar
Create utility bill insert artwork monthly in collaboration with Communication Team members 
Create digital message board graphics on demand in collaboration with Communication Team members
Provide e-newsletter masthead design, brochure layouts and infographic creation on occasion
Provide some light video editing on occasion 
Consult with Communication Team members on elements of creative design
Participate in Communication Team activities as a team member

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Basic knowledge of layouts, typography, line composition, color, and other graphic design fundamentals
Experience with InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, and Illustrator
Strong creative and analytical skills
Compelling portfolio of graphic design work
Must be a hard-working, self-motivated, pro-active person with a creative eye and passion for their work
Strong time management skills to assure timely delivery of projects
1-2 years of Graphic Design experience
Highly organized, creative and detail oriented
Excellent communication skills

Preferred Qualification

Graphic Design major preferred

Minimum Qualifications

Degree or college coursework in Graphic Design, Design, Marketing, Communications, Digital Design, Editing, Photography, Advertising
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

Background checks must be in compliance with all federal and state statutes, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate’s written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
