Summary

The Charlotte Area Transit System is seeking a GIS planning analyst to help the department become a transit industry  leader in using data driven analytic approaches to transit service planning, ridership projections, travel market research and best practices that integrate land use and transportation choices. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • This position serves as the main point of contact on the maintenance and analysis of data used for CATS performance measures, transit service planning, travel demand forecasting, as well as GIS development and coordination for the department.  Supports GIS data activities including data creation, data collection procedures, data maintenance, compilation and analysis of Enterprise data resources.
  • Work involves designing, developing, and maintaining GIS geodatabases; executing spatial analyses, creating high quality information products including maps, reports, and online applications; and, completing technical research utilizing GIS and other analytical and visualization tools to assist in the monitoring and management of CATS ridership and other performance statistics. 
  • Coordinating and collaborating with other departments, agencies, and the community.
  • Utilizes GIS software and cartographic knowledge to create maps and infographics, which accurately and clearly convey the information in a manner suitable for publishing/public presentation.
  • This position utilizes GIS technology, analysis tools, and sound transportation planning practices to develop public and internal facing applications.
  • Serve as CATS lead on the City's Co-Lab (Data) Team. 
  • Other duties include training colleagues; helping with presentations; managing media; participating in training classes and seminars; creating custom maps; and aiding departments when necessary.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Advanced knowledge/proficiency using ArcGIS 10.x and other ESRI products, such as, ArcGIS Online; proficient in geodatabase design and implementation. Knowledge in utilizing business intelligence tools, such as Tableau, is a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software. Good communication skills and the develop materials that clearly explain complex data for review by broad audiences. Ability to prepare well-written, clear and precise memoranda, reports and technical documentation

Preferred Qualification

Transportation planning experience and knowledge of transit planning best practices preferred.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a four-year degree with a BA/BS in geography, urban planning or related field. Minimum five years experience in applied GIS, data analysis, creation, interpretation and cartography.
