Function

The City of Charlotte, Charlotte Water (CLTWater) is seeking a Lift Station Technician for the Maintenance Division.  CLTWater is an enterprise department of the City of Charlotte with more than $3 billion in assets.  CLTWater is one of the largest public water and sewer service providers in the southeast with more than 280,000 customer accounts and over 900 employees.  

Summary

CLTWater’s annual budget is approximately $400 million, including operating and debt service costs.  We enjoy the highest credit ratings from three major credit rating agencies because of sound financial planning and management and strong support from our City Council.  We value competent, skilled candidates with a service focus to work in a team environment.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Inspect sewage pumping equipment, record run times, looking and listening for abnormalities from machinery, recording chemical tank levels, inspecting emergency generator units, and associated equipment including fuel systems. 
Assists in the maintenance, repair, and rebuild of the mechanical equipment found in sewage pump stations. 
Performs tests to determine operating efficiency of equipment, documents readings, and prepares reports.
Must respond to after-hours alarms and subject to emergency call back as required. 
Work in confined spaces up to 40’ below ground including wet wells.
Climb ladders; work at heights up to 20’.
Lift and move up to 100 pounds.
Subject to varying and adverse weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent and three years of experience. 

A valid driver’s license and meet City driving requirements.

Must obtain a North Carolina Grade One Collection System Operators Certification within eighteen months of hire date.  



Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

Background checks must be in compliance with all federal and state statutes, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate’s written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
