Introduction
The goal of the City of Charlotte's General Services Department is to guide agencies through innovative and efficient deployment of resources to meet their missions and fulfill the needs of the City in a rapidly evolving and complex environment. General Services consists of capital project management, fleet services, procurement, environmental services, property management, and other support services.

Summary
The Fleet Management Division is seeking a Light Technician Master position. The fleet includes, but is not limited to: light duty, medium to heavy-duty trucks, and trailers. This is a 1st shift position at the 12th St. shop.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
• Performs advanced diagnosis & repair of complex electronically controlled gasoline, automotive diesel, hybrid, electric powertrains, and modern electrical systems
• Performs preventative maintenance inspection and repair
• Diagnosis and repair of failed components of a vehicle's body and/or auxiliary systems including, but not limited to water pumps, electrical systems and other communication devices that may necessitate the use of computer based diagnostic platforms
• Utilizes fleet maintenance software to accurately document work performed
• Ensure repairs are completed to City, County, Fleet Management and DOT standards
• Interprets manuals, electrical diagrams, and diagnostic software
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Experience performing journeyman level automotive service technician work on all types of light and medium equipment
• Works well without direct supervision
• Knowledge of the methods, tools and materials used in maintaining & repairing automotive & related equipment
• Knowledge of the occupational hazards & safety precautions of the trade
• Ability to exercise adequate safety precautions against occupational hazards
• Ability to articulate repair process & procedures to fellow teammates
• Ability to diagnose defects in automotive equipment
• Perform complex mechanical repairs independently
• Analyze, evaluate & effectively write diagnosis, recommendations, and work performed to complete work orders
• Follow oral & written instructions
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally & in writing
• Ability to troubleshoot communications equipment malfunctions
• Ability to operate technical & computer test equipment
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds of equipment and/or tools
• Possess or obtain the following licensures within six months (180) days of hire:
o NC Inspection license
o AC Recovery & Recycling License
• May be required to periodically work overtime, alternate shifts, holidays, and weekends to meet Fleet staffing needs
• Valid North Carolina driver's license
• Ability to obtain a City driving permit
Preferred Qualification
• Degree or certification from an accredited technical school, college or manufacturer training certification recognized by ASE
• ASE certification(s) applicable to position
• At least five years of experience diagnosing & repairing light and medium fleet & equipment
Minimum Qualifications
• Five (5) years of relevant work experience; or a High School diploma/GED with three (3) years of relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties
Conditions of Employment
