Summary

We are looking for 8 Summer Interns for the following areas:

Design and Construction Section
Assist in various phases of project development (planning, design, bid, and construction) for water and wastewater pipeline
Aid in in-house design using Civil 3D  of water and sanitary sewer pipeline extensions as well as minor pipeline improvements, including exposure to field survey, permitting through local and state agencies, real estate considerations, and construction inspection
Gain exposure to e-Builder, ESRI, and AutoCAD software products

The Installation and Development Services (IDS) Section is seeking an intern to assist Donated Projects Section, Enhanced Review Section and New Services Section 
Assist with Donated Water and Wastewater Plan Review
Assist with site plan review for New Service Installations
Attend Pre-submittal and Urban Conceptual Meetings for Preliminary Site Review
Perform project oriented tasks related to water and sewer installation
Become familiar with infrastructure approval and acceptance process
Shadow inspectors and assist as needed 

The Planning Section
Assist in water and wastewater hydraulic analysis and modeling, master planning efforts, and infrastructure system field testing

Project Management Section
Assist in inspection of asphalt resurfacing efforts and the protection of water and sewer assets utilizing GIS information and other tracking software
Assist in project management of water and sewer infrastructure improvements including project tracking and control
Assist with database audit reports of project management processes within e-Builder, the  Construction and Capital Program Management 
Provide general support to e-Builder related project management activities, trainings, and Governance Teams 

Minimum Qualifications

Must be currently enrolled in an engineering program with coursework relevant to the major duties and responsibilities.

Must possess a valid Driver's license and have a good driving record.

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate’s written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
