Summary
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and design repairs, maintenance, and emergency actions.
- Develop and manage processes for evaluating lifecycle costs and business risk of assets, repair / maintenance / rehab / replace recommendations, and reporting funding gaps.
- Manage contracts and consultants.
- Prioritize assets for inspection and plan and coordinate inspections, traffic control, cleaning, dye testing, and other activities with City and contractor staff.
- Establish and follow best practices for integrating asset condition information to assets.
- Coordinate with the public, contractors, and operations staff in the execution of work orders.
- Communicate plans and objectives to the public and responding to public concerns regarding activities directed by this position.
- Assist with investigations and inspections.
- Provide customer service by serving as key divisional and team resource.
- Perform quality assurance of asset condition data and other asset attributes.
- Advocate for accuracy in the asset condition database and assisting with process improvement to ensure compliance with accuracy standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Familiarity with storm water system operational and structural defects.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, departments, and the public.
- Ability to plan, prioritize and organize work and complete assignments with minimal supervision.
- Ability to apply conflict resolution techniques and to work collaboratively and effectively with others.
- Must understand hazards and exhibit a serious attitude towards safety precautions.
- Proficient computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office Products (Word and Excel), ArcMap, and Cityworks.
- A valid driver’s license, a good driving record with the ability to obtain and maintain a City Driving Permit.
Preferred Qualification
- Licensure as a Professional Engineer preferred.
- Experience with the design, installation, and maintenance of storm water assets.
- This position requires significant judgment in traveling; traversing difficult terrain (at least 3 miles a day), retaining structures, barriers, and various urban/rural conditions; encountering a wide range of animals, insects, vegetation, and weather conditions; interacting with public; and experiencing unforeseen conditions/situations in accessing and entering drainage features within the Right of Way, public, and private property. The ability to traverse encountered field conditions as part of this position’s duties and responsibilities is a condition of employment. Occasional on-call emergency work may be required.
