Summary

The Equipment Service Assistant performs semi-skilled tasks on the transit bus fleet at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.  Duties include fueling Diesel buses, dispensing Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), Plugging in and monitoring electric buses, cleaning buses, and performing basic maintenance. Basic maintenance includes checking fluid levels (oil, anti-freeze, transmission fluid, window washer levels, etc.), checking tire pressure, changing light bulbs and wipers, and moving and positioning the buses as needed.

General Information:
• Works 10-hour assigned shift four days per week. Current shifts are 6:00am to 4:30pm Sunday-Wednesday or Wednesday-Saturday, or 4:00pm to 2:30am.  Shift times, days of the week and assignment subject to change, overtime, and emergency/urgent calls back to work.
• Requires a valid driver’s license with a driving record that meets criteria for obtaining and maintaining a City Driving Permit.  Prefer Class B Commercial Driver’s License with a Passenger endorsement.
• Certain convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore exclude from employment.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

1. Performs fueling operations using a standard retail fuel dispenser. 
2. Cleans inside of buses to include sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, and wiping down of passenger and driver areas.
3. Drives bus through Automatic Bus Wash to clean exterior.
4. Checks, drains and re-fills essential vehicle fluids to include: Engine Oil, Engine Coolant, Transmission Fluid, Windshield Wiper Fluid and Tire Pressure, Drains Water from Air Tanks. 
5. Performs DOT CDL Pre-Trip Inspection on a Class 7 Transit Bus. 
6. Keeps track of buses coming off route and ensures they are cleaned and fueled before going back into service. 
7. Performs other duties as assigned. 
8. Cleaning work area and Vehicle wash area.
9. Assists with and learns to perform oil changes on buses, cars, vans, and pick-up trucks. 
10. Assists with and learns to perform tire mounting and balancing on cars, vans, and pick-up trucks. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Some knowledge of the methods, tools and materials used in maintaining automotive and related equipment.
• Ability to complete basic maintenance on automotive equipment.
• Ability to complete basic paperwork.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to use and care for basic tools, equipment, and materials used in maintenance of the Airport’s fleet.

Physical Requirements:
Physically demanding job which includes: stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions.

Preferred Qualification

Prefer one year of experience in a maintenance environment

Minimum Qualifications

One year related work experience

OR

High School Graduate or Equivalent
