Introduction

Operates heavy equipment for the Field Maintenance Division at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.  The primary role of this position will be to operator a sweeper truck on runways, taxiways, and other ramp areas as required.  Other duties required to perform may include overseeing concrete and asphalt work at a moderate level.  The primary equipment operated in this position will be a sweeper truck.   Technician maybe required to operate motor grader, dozer, tandem dump truck, rubber tire loader, track loader, flusher truck, asphalt rollers, back-hoes, road tractor, airfield tractor, walk behind concrete/asphalt saw, broom tractor and Vammas PSB snow plow. Concrete and asphalt work includes concrete and/or asphalt removal and replacement and concrete spall repairs and patching. Duties are performed both landside and airside.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

1. Primarily operates a sweeper truck on the airfield.  May drive other heavy equipment and trucks including motor grader, dozer, tandem dump truck, rubber tire loader, track loader, skid-steer loader, flusher truck, asphalt rollers, back-hoes, road tractor, airfield mowing equipment, walk behind concrete/asphalt saw, broom tractor and Vammas PSB snow plow.
2. Inspects assigned equipment for readiness and safety.
3. Perform as lead worker in absence of supervisor.
4. Completes related records and reports.
5. Performs related manual labor.



General Information:
Works Saturday through Tuesday, 5:30AM - 3:30PM.  Ability to work other shifts and overtime when required by assignment, inclement weather or urgent/emergency situations.  Subject to emergency calls back to work.
Valid CDL-B with no more than 6 points.  Tanker vehicle endorsement and CDL-A or the ability to obtain within one year of employment.  Ability to obtain tractor/trailer endorsement within one year. Ability to obtain and maintain City driving permit.  Ability to acquire AMA (Airfield Movement Area) endorsement within six months of employment.
Certain criminal convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore exclude from employment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of concrete and asphalt repair methods and practices.
Knowledge of safety precautions and work hazards involved in the operation of equipment.
Knowledge of concrete and asphalt work.
Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations involved in the operation of equipment.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to communicate in a professional and positive manner with airport tenants and the public.
Skills to be able to read and write sufficiently to complete records and reports.
Exceptional motor grader and dozer operating skills which include spreading and leveling dirt, gravel, stone and other materials to grade specifications and observing from reference stakes or lines.

Preferred Qualification

Prefer five to seven years experience operating heavy equipment. Prefer proficient operator of a sweeper truck.  Experience operating other equipment to perform construction related duties are required.  Proficient in concrete and asphalt repair and finishing practices.

Minimum Qualifications

Seven years of related work experience

OR

High School Graduate or Equivalent and five years related work experience

AND

Required:  CDL-B and the ability to obtain a CDL-A and Tank Endorsement within the first 12 months of employment
