Summary

The Transportation Planner II with the Regional Modeling, Analysis, and Coordination Section assists with the development and application of the Metrolina Regional Travel Demand Model, prepares travel demand forecasts and conducts detailed analyses of transportation demand and performance in a team setting using Travel Demand Modelling, micro and meso-Simulation and transportation data analytics. This position also performs computer programing related to travel demand modelling and traffic analyses.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform transportation scenario analyses in a wide array of projects including:
Corridor studies
Traffic Impact Studies
Highway and transit projects

  • Analyze connectivity and land use using TransCAD and CommunityViz
  • Scope, perform and review traffic analyses using Synchro, TransModeler and Vissim.
  • Analyze transportation and mobility using probe data and transportation models.
  • Produce and review travel forecasts using TransCAD.
  • Provide written and verbal technical analyses, reports and presentations to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Edit macros and computer programs (FORTRAN/C++/GISDK) for regional travel demand model.

Preferred Qualification

  • Master’s degree with one (1) year of relevant experience
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning or a related field
  • Professional registration: American Institute of Certified Planners, Professional Engineer and Engineer Intern

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and three (3)years of relevant work experience
  • or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties.

Salary

  • $68,043.16 - $85,054.00 / Year; Commensurate with experience

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.
