Summary

The Charlotte Area Transit System provides bus, rail, paratransit, and vanpool services for the Charlotte region. The system is also expanding under the guidance of the 2030 Transit Corridor System Plan, a bold, long-range plan that consists of multiple rapid transit improvements in five corridors, a series of Center City improvements, and bus service and facility improvements throughout the region.

CATS is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated individual with experience and skills in web design, web content and web development. The webmaster will assist in the production and maintenance of ridetransit.org and other CATS web properties to strengthen the CATS brand, enhance the customer experience, help increase ridership and create a positive image within the Charlotte region. The webmaster is a member of the CATS Marketing and Communications team. The ideal candidate will design web elements, format content, and ensure that web content is up to date and ADA compliant.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  •       Manage content for CATS’ web properties
  •       Implement user-friendly and responsive web pages
  •       Coordinate web projects across CATS divisions
  •       Ensure quality and consistency of all web properties and work collaboratively with design staff and vendors
  •       Play an active role in quality assurance of CATS web content
  •       Manage CATS intranet pages: employee communication and information sharing portal(s)
  •       SEO optimize key CATS service pages
  •        Report on site metrics and key performance indicators
  •       Work collaboratively with internal and external teams to coordinate vision, direction and development of the CATS web presence and long-term plans
  •        Assist as needed with CATS social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, etc.
  •        Design, develop, test, deploy and monitor web-based and other custom software applications
  •        Troubleshoot technical design issues, content updating, and other technical support related to the web
  •        Ensure all CATS web content is 508 and WCAG 2.1 compliant
  •        Perform related duties as required

  

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  •          Exceptional communication and organizational skills.
  •         Advanced knowledge of SharePoint, HTML5, CSS2/3, JavaScript, Adobe Suite and relational databases.
  •         Strong understanding of UX/UI principles as well as responsive and adaptive design.
  •         Strong understanding of AA/AAA accessibility requirements.
  •         Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  •         Proven ability to build consensus and work effectively within a cross-functional team.
  •         Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
  •        Must be able to work outside of traditional 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule.  

 

Preferred Qualification

Must be able to come into the office to collaborate with team and complete assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduate with three years of experience in managing website content and production, or associate degree and one year of experience. Bachelor’s degree with related experience preferred.

Salary

Grade 6, commensurate with experience

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

Background checks must be in compliance with all federal and state statutes, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate’s written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
