Function

This position assists treatment plant operators and maintenance staff on skilled aspects of daily maintenance and operation. This position performs scheduled preventative maintenance on various mechanical and process equipment throughout the plants.

Summary

Charlotte Water is seeking two full time Treatment Plant Mechanic Assistants to provide light industrial maintenance support for two wastewater treatment plants. Sugar Creek is located in southern Mecklenburg County and is permitted to treat 20 million gallons daily and McAlpine Creek is located in Pineville, North Carolina and is permitted to treat 64 million gallons daily. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Assist operations with duties such as process equipment calibrations, chemical receiving and off-loading, and taking process samples.  
Tasks related to regulatory requirements such as completing fire security inspections, stormwater facility inspections, manage recycle/dumpster materials and prepare appropriate reports associated.
Light maintenance duties to include painting equipment, buildings, and curbs, changing light fixtures, small repairs and other building maintenance duties; Assists in maintaining small mechanical equipment.  
Facility maintenance which includes cleaning of treatment tanks, basins, floors, walkways and grounds, etc.
Assists in scheduling, follow up and transporting plant vehicles for necessary maintenance and inspections.
Courier of all plant samples to the offsite laboratory facility. Runs various errands as needed such as picking up maintenance or laboratory supplies. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Computer skills with ability to work with various software  
Experience with industrial building maintenance.  
Must have good oral/written communication skills, organizational skills
Ability to analyze problems and recommend solutions.
Requires the ability to work cooperatively with other employees and external vendors. 
Ability to work independently and prioritize work duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires valid driver’s license with ability to obtain a City Driving Permit. 
High school diploma/GED required.

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
