Summary

Performs journey level electrical work, maintain and repair airfield lighting circuits, signs and regulators at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

1. Installs, repairs and maintains airfield lighting circuits, airfield lighting control systems, lighting regulators, emergency generators, uninterrupted power supply (UPS), transfer switches and other miscellaneous building electrical duties.  Tests operational efficiency of airfield lighting circuits, electrical lighting regulators and electronic test equipment, and maintains logs.  Conducts maintenance checks and makes repairs in compliance with specifications and FAA requirements.
2. Installs, repairs and maintains aircraft ramp lighting.  
3. Performs maintenance work necessary to bus shelters and building electrical systems.
4. Trains other employees. 
5. Provide basic inspections on Airport construction projects.
6. Operates motorized vehicles as needed, including aerial lifts, fork-lifts, trenchers, backhoes and pick-up trucks.


General Information:
Primarily works 10:00PM to 6:00AM, Sunday through Thursday. Subject to change in shift, rotating on-call duty, weekend and holiday duty and 24-hour emergency call back. 
Valid driver’s license with no more than six points, and ability to obtain and maintain City driving permit.  Must be able to obtain an AMA (airfield movement area driving certificate) within six months of employment.  
Pass security check in advance of start date, and maintain security authorization.  Certain convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore exclude from employment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to perform journey level work on electrical and mechanical systems.
Read and write sufficiently to complete paperwork and read schematic designs and blueprints. 
Maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, contractors and tenants. 
Follow verbal and written instructions.
Knowledge of principles of electrical circuits, wiring systems and construction.
Ability to acquire AMA (Airfield Movement Area) endorsement within six months of employment.

Preferred Qualification

NC electrical license preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduate/GED required preferably with minimum three years of experience in the electrical trade required.
Associate’s degree with one year of experience required.

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
