Function

The City of Charlotte, Charlotte Water Department is accepting applications for the Engineering Construction Inspector Co-op position for the Pipeline Academy Co-op Program. 

Summary

The individual will work under the supervision of the Charlotte Water Field Operations Division Pipeline Rehabilitation. The candidate must be a student currently enrolled in a recognized curriculum at an institution of post-secondary education majoring in Construction, Project Management, Math, or Engineering.

Full-time/Part-time (Depending on student schedule)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Applicants for this position will learn the following tasks as it pertains to the daily work:

Monitor construction sites to ensure compliance with the plans and specifications as well as CLTWater standards.
Serve as point of contact with the contractor and interpret construction plans, specifications, standard details, and the current Charlotte Water Design Manual.
Identify and reject defective work or substandard materials,
Direct and witness all required testing for the type of construction being inspected.
Handle all required paperwork, including pre-construction photos, reports, and all testing forms, etc.
Serve as the liaison with customers and the general public regarding the construction project.

Physical Requirements:
Standing, walking, bending, and light lifting

Minimum Qualifications

Current enrollment or recent graduate in an accredited college or university leading towards an associate's or bachelor's degree with major course work in a related field of study specific to the departmental or work assignment.
Proficient with Microsoft Office
Valid North Carolina Driver's License

Conditions of Employment

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
