Summary
Charlotte Area Transit System provides bus, rail, paratransit and vanpool services for the Charlotte region. The system is also expanding under the guidance of the 2030 Transit Corridor System Plan, a bold long-range plan that consists of multiple rapid transit improvements in five corridors, a series of Center City improvement, and bus service and facility improvements throughout the region. CATS uses various ways to communicate with the riding public and is seeking a social media specialist to manage the organization's social media program. This includes overseeing CATS' current platforms; Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. The successful candidate will have an affinity for and demonstrated professional success on various social media platforms. The person will be creative, intuitive, and analytical with the ability to work as part of a team but also individually.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Build and execute social media strategy through research, understanding of CATS, massaging and target markets that are successful, thoughtful and appropriate.
Develop and understand platforms currently used by CATS while also determining if/how others are beneficial to the organization.
Strong Knowledge of paid and earned media, how/when each is needed
Generate, edit, publish and share daily content(text, images, video, etc.) that builds meaningful connections with the community.
React quickly to emerging situations and use good judgement in determining what customers need/want and how to articulate responses to situations.
Set up and optimize company pages within each platform to increase the visibility of company's social content.
Respond to customer questions and inquiries; make connections with customers regarding comments made on various platforms.
Create editorial calendars and schedules.
Continuously improve platforms by gathering and analyzing social data/metrics, insights and best practices; use data to modify plans, counsel management and/or take necessary actions.
Provide analytic and reporting to provide real-world impacts and show how plan/campaign or post has benefited the business.
Collaborate with other CATS divisions (Marketing, PR and Customer Service) to manage reputation, identify key players and coordinate actions; will also include updating the City of Charlotte's Corporate Communications & Marketing Department at certain times.
Performs related duties as required.

Excellent consulting, writing, presentation and communication skills
General editing (photo/video/text) and photography with iPhone
Demonstrable social networking experience and social analytic tools knowledge
Knowledge of online marketing and good understanding of major marketing channels
Positive attitude, detail and customer-oriented
Must be able to work outside of traditional 8am-5Pm hours to provide best service for customers

Preferred Qualification
Proven work experience in social media marketing or as a digital media specialist.
Minimum Qualifications
BS in Communications, Marketing, Business, New Media or Public Relations.
Conditions of Employment
The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.
