The City of Charlotte is seeking candidates
for its Career and Training Academy. The program gives participants and
opportunity to learn an entry-level job along with other relevant training
preparing them for future job opportunities. The Career and Training Academy is
a six-month program.
The store clerk trainee maintains inventory located in the
Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) at the South Boulevard light rail vehicle
maintenance facility (VMF). The VMF is a seven-day, twenty-four hour, three
hundred sixty-five-day operation.
The store clerk trainee works in the storeroom assisting
maintenance staff in retrieving parts needed for preventative maintenance work
orders, notifies maintenance staff of deliveries or corrective parts received,
documents parts received for work orders, completes requisition documents for
non-existing parts, assists procurement liason, scans and inventories parts
received into inventory maintenance software and verifies quantities are
correct, and performs other duties as assigned by the Warranty and Parts
Manager.
You will be trained to perform the following duties:
Work with all members of the parts and warranty workforce, and
all related Rail sections to ensure all parts and services are available to
maintain safe, reliable, and clean rail vehicles and rail facilities
Process requests from maintenance staff for requisitions of
parts and supplies, assist maintenance
Follow and adhere to all storeroom standards, policies and
procedures applicable to the day-to-day operations of the light rail line
Maintain a library of part supplier’s catalogs and assist
maintenance in researching parts as needed for corrective orders
Scan parts out of inventory and process packing receipts by
adding parts to inventory
Perform planned weekly cycle counts to ensure the accuracy of
the storeroom inventory levels
Maintain the cleanliness of the storeroom and assist with
relocation of parts as needed
Comply with all safety regulations set forth by CATS, OSHA,
FTA, FRA, NCDOT
Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Warranty
and Parts Manager
The store clerk trainee must be able to:
Follow oral and written instructions with minimal supervision
Communicate effectively and clearly in English orally and in
writing
Operate a forklift
Possess PC skills including all Microsoft Office Programs
Obtain and maintain a City Driving Permit
Display motivation to learn new skills and apply them to the
job
Ability to work in a team environment
Commitment to program completion
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
Valid driver’s license

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.
