Summary

Charlotte Area Transit System provides bus, rail, paratransit and vanpool services for the Charlotte region.  The system is also expanding under the guidance of the 2030 Transit Corridor System Plan, a bold long-range plan that consists of multiple rapid transit improvements in five corridors, a series of Center City improvements, and bus service and facility improvements throughout the region.

CATS is seeking a creative and enthusiastic marketing manager in its Marketing and Communications Division. The successful candidate will be passionate about marketing, innovative and creative, and focused on protecting and strengthening the CATS brand.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Knowledgeable of brand development practices that aid in strengthening the CATS brand.

  • Develop and lead implementation of marketing strategies and short and long-term campaigns that use research and data to achieve company goals; lead advertising agency of record efforts and manage contract

  • Lead and motivate a team of marketing professionals that includes graphic artists; keep morale high while promoting project completion through changing priorities

  • Knowledgeable about various marketing tools and tactics; understand latest marketing trends and can identify emerging trends

  • Work closely with Public Relations team to ensure consistent messaging

  • Manage CATS’ revenue-producing contracts that relate specifically to advertising and transit passes

  • Successfully collaborate with Marketing and Communications teammates, other CATS staff, other City departments and external organizations to carry out CATS’ mission

  • Participate in on-call duties that require overnight and weekend media line coverage

  • Performs related duties as required.

  • High proficiency level of computer skills using Microsoft Word, Outlook, Power Point, and Excel.
  • Must be able to work outside of traditional 8a-5p hours

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates for this position are required to have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in marketing, advertising or related field.
  • At least five years of experience with in-house or marketing agency
  • Experience managing people and teams
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful marketing campaigns

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
