Summary

Supervise and participate in the work of Airport Operations Officers.  Work includes organizing shift resources, assigning tasks, training, scheduling, conducting performance reviews, and relaying and following complex oral and written instructions.  Act decisively and exercise independent judgment within established rules, regulations and procedures.  Requires excellent organizational and leadership skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships while representing Charlotte Douglas International Airport in a professional, positive manner.

General Information:
• Must be able to work assigned shifts, including holidays, and report back to work during emergencies and inclement weather.  Schedule subject to change and overtime.
• Valid drivers’ license required and the ability to qualify for and maintain a City driving permit.
• Must successfully pass and maintain an active Security Threat Assessment (STA) and Criminal History Records Check (CHRC). Certain convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore from employment. 

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to supervise and participate in the work of Airport Operations Coordinators and Agents which includes working inside and outside. For  “airfield” work: 40% of job is sitting, 10% standing, 4% bending, 15% walking, 25% driving, 1% reaching and 2% kneeling or squatting.  Should be able to walk up to one mile and drive up to 25 miles. Lift up to 25 lbs. for short distances (i.e. - 2 feet) 1% of the time, push 35 lbs. 20 feet 1%, and carry 5 lbs. for 100 yards 1%.  May be exposed to chemicals, fumes, solvents, machinery, moving objects/vehicles, dust, slippery/uneven surfaces, excessive noise and inclement weather.  Must be able to perform inspections on foot and in a vehicle.  Must be able to operate various features of the terminal facility, including elevators, escalators, lighting, automatic doors and security gates.  


Major Duties and Responsibilities

1. Supervise and participate in the work of Airport Operations Coordinators and Agents, including: organizing shift resources, assigning tasks, training, scheduling, conducting performance reviews, and relaying and following complex oral and written instructions
2. Provide assistance to tenants, contractors, the traveling public and airport employees
3. Establish and maintain effective working relationships
4. Respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations
5. Act decisively and exercise independent judgment within established rules, regulations and procedures, to ensure the safety of persons and security of property
6. Assist the Airside Operations Assistant Manager with 24/7/365 administrative duty officer responsibilities
7. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing, including operating radio equipment
8. Maintain accurate records and produce reports
9. Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of ramp practices, airport facilities and airfield required.
• Knowledge of aviation radio procedures/phraseology and ability to navigate on airport movement areas.
• Must have knowledge of 14 CFR Part 139, TSAR 1542 and aviation safety practices. 
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster effective working relationships with numerous internal and external airport stakeholders.
• Must demonstrate strong situational awareness and be able to work in a fast paced airport environment.   
• Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
• Ability to represent Charlotte Douglas International Airport in a professional, positive manner.
• Must have the ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations. 
• Ability to achieve AMA driving status within 90 days of hire date

Preferred Qualification

• Experience in Airport Operations at an FAR Part 139 certified airport and familiarity with Charlotte Douglas International Airport 
• AAAE Certified Member, or ACE Airfield Operations
• Bachelor's Degree in Aviation Management/Administration, Business Administration, Public Administration or a field related to Aviation 

Minimum Qualifications

High School Graduate or Equivalent and seven years related work experience

OR

Associate's Degree and five years related work experience

OR

Bachelor's Level Degree and three years related work experience
