Summary

Greet the traveling public upon arrival from other countries at Charlotte Douglas International Airport Federal Inspections Station facility (i.e. Department of Homeland Security).  Assist with terminal operations functions.

General Information:
• Hours of work are 1:00 pm until the last international flight is processed. Days of work vary due to assignment. Last flight typically arrives around 9:00 pm, but may be much later due to flight delays.  Hours subject to change due to flight schedules or emergencies. 
• Certain convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore exclude from employment.
• Ability to clear additional security clearance in order to obtain a customs seal is required post hire.

Physical Requirements:
Spends almost 100% of time standing or walking.  Must be able to push baggage carts.  Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted for short distances helpful.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

1. Welcome arriving passengers by directing them to Inspectors.  Multi-lingual personnel will provide translation services.
2. Show arriving passengers where to claim baggage and be screened by security personnel.
3. Ensure baggage cart stand is refilled with empty carts when necessary.
4. May occasionally have to assist travelers with baggage. 
5. Assist with other terminal operations functions as needed such as special operations, lost and found and Airport Services Counter.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Fluency in languages other than English required, particularly French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and German.
• Represent the Airport in a professional, positive manner and provide exceptional customer service to the traveling public.

Preferred Qualification

Customer service experience and experience with translating/interpreting preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Graduate or Equivalent

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate’s written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
