Summary
Works as a senior airfield electrician at Charlotte Douglas International Airport primarily performing high voltage airfield electrical work installing cabling, transformers, lights both in pavement and above pavement, and airfield signage; locating and repairing malfunctions in electrical circuits/equipment/regulators; inspecting, servicing, testing, performing PM’s and repairing systems. Performs other general maintenance work incidental to above duties as necessary and maintain parking lot light, and bus shelter lights.
General Information:
• Primarily works 10:00PM to 6:00AM, Sunday through Thursday. Subject to change in shift, rotating on-call duty, weekend and holiday duty and 24-hour emergency call back.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to qualify and maintain a City driving permit. Must be able to obtain an AMA (airfield movement area driving certificate) within six months of employment.
• Must successfully pass and maintain an active Security Threat Assessment (STA) and Criminal History Records Check (CHRC). Certain convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore exclude from employment.
Physical Requirements:
Spends about 70% of the time standing, bending, reaching, walking and driving. The rest of the time includes a combination of sitting, twisting, keeling, squatting, crawling, lifting, and carrying. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
Works primarily outside. May include exposure to inclement weather, machinery, dust, scaffolding, ladders, vibrating tools, excessive noise, large crowds and slippery or uneven surfaces. Uses a variety of electrical tools.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
1. Installs, repairs and maintains airfield lighting circuits, airfield lighting control systems, lighting regulators, emergency generators, uninterrupted power supply (UPS), transfer switches and other miscellaneous building electrical duties. Tests operational efficiency of airfield lighting circuits, electrical lighting regulators and electronic test equipment, and maintains logs. Conducts maintenance checks and makes repairs in compliance with specifications and FAA requirements.
2. Installs, repairs and maintains aircraft ramp lighting.
3. Coordinates parking lot lighting installation and repair with contract vendors.
4. Performs maintenance work necessary to bus shelter and building electrical systems.
5. Serves as lead worker as needed. Trains other employees.
6. Operates motorized vehicles as needed, including aerial lifts, fork-lifts, trenchers, backhoes and pick-up trucks.
7. Provides inspections on Airport construction projects.
8. Subject to emergency call back for equipment repairs and inclement weather.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Read and write sufficiently to complete related paperwork and read schematic designs and blueprints.
• Maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, tenants and contractors. Represent the airport in a professional manner.
• Accurately follow oral and written instructions.
Preferred Qualification
NC electrical license preferred
AAAE-ACE (American Association of Airport Executives - Airport Certified Employee) certificate and ADB-CAP certification from ADB Safegate.
Working knowledge of other building trades required
Minimum Qualifications
Five years of relevant experience
OR
High School graduate or Equivalent with three years of relevant experience
