Summary

The Center for Digital Government named Charlotte one of the top five digital cities in the nation. The City of Charlotte's Innovation & Technology department (I&T) provides executive-level leadership, delivers technology services to city departments and partnership agencies, and coordinates information technology initiatives across the organization to support, enhance and advance citizen service delivery.

The Data Storage Administrator works at the direction of the Aviation Technology Infrastructure Manager for the City of Charlotte, Charlotte Douglas International Airport.  The Data Storage Administrator guarantees the availability and recoverability of enterprise storage systems.  This is accomplished by keeping up with storage and backing up infrastructure. Aviation manages servers, both physical and virtual, for the Aviation’s multi-server and multi-site environment. This position participates in the planning, implementation, configuration, troubleshooting, management and support of Aviation systems.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Manages software by configuring and updating software; establishing back up policies; backing up infrastructure by updating firmware; recovering data. 
Maintains hardware by updating firmware and software; restocking storage; configuring network applications; increasing disk space.
Monitors backup time by checking backup runs; restarting failed backups; supervising disk space usage and network application performance.
Fixes hardware by troubleshooting failed backups; helping staff with storage issues; dealing with system emergencies; recovering servers and systems; resolving problem tickets.
Plans for future storage by keeping up with backup growth; helping with replacing and upgrading hardware; aiding in the migration towards newer hardware and/or software.
Backs up the server list by documenting common resolutions and procedures; implementing infrastructure documentation.
Work various shifts, on a sliding schedule and weekends as needed to complete related work.

Analysis and troubleshooting
Test and evaluate hardware and software to determine efficiencies and compatibilities with existing systems
Adapt to changing and new technologies
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departmental staff, consultants, contractors, supervisors, and department officials
Express ideas clearly, concisely and respectfully, orally and in writing in group settings
Use hand tools such as screw drivers and pliers

Preferred Qualification

Associate’s degree with at least five (5) years of with SAN and NAS technologies in an enterprise environment. 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with three (3) years’ experience with SAN and NAS technologies in an enterprise environment.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a city driver’s permit.


Salary

$70,390 - $87,986 Commensurate with Experience

Conditions of Employment
