Summary
The Center for Digital Government named Charlotte one of the top five digital cities in the nation. The City of Charlotte's Innovation & Technology department (I&T) provides executive-level leadership, delivers technology services to city departments and partnership agencies, and coordinates information technology initiatives across the organization to support, enhance and advance citizen service delivery.
Responsible for the management support of network hardware, configuration, security and access control for systems located at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT). Serves as the primary administrator for hardware infrastructure and software utilized in airport systems and maintains system performance, oversees network and troubleshooting. Install, configure and support LANs, WANs and Internet systems, including public Wi-Fi. Monitors individual networks for availability (system users, equipment, and hardware failures).
Major Duties and Responsibilities
• Manage hardware infrastructure and software, utilized in Airport systems, and maintain system performance.
• Manages the public Wi-Fi infrastructure through the use of Vendor supplied management tools.
• Troubleshoots problems. Provide support for end-user network problems.
• Install, configure and support LANs, WANs and internet systems.
• Monitors networks for availability to system users and equipment for hardware failures.
• Responds to help desk calls/communicates with customers to resolve issues.
• Works directly with vendors to provide access control and video monitoring capabilities
• Configure wireless access points using vendor management tools.
• Use of Microsoft Visio to create network diagrams
• Researches for future network improvements and understands technology changes in network architecture
• Acts as a SME technical resource for vendors, peers, and less experienced technicians
• Overseas work quality, training, and work scheduling of less experienced technicians
• Likely to function as lead or supervisor over less experienced technicians.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Considerable knowledge in the installation and configuration of Network infrastructure and security
• Knowledge of Cisco/Avaya/Nortel networking hardware
• Working knowledge of DNS and Active Directory.
• Knowledge of Spanning Tree protocol
• Knowledge of firewalls such as Palo Alto or Sonicwall
• Knowledge of VRRP/HSRP
• Knowledge of the 802.1aq (shortest path bridging)
• Knowledge of monitoring software (Avaya Unified Communication manager, Avaya Wireless management software and Avaya Device manager) a plus.
• Strong analytical skills and problem-solving methodology.
• Knowledge of OSI model.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with consultants, contractors, supervisors, and department officials.
• Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
• SME understanding of SDN/SDDC/SDWAN network topology
• Extensive experience in Network automation, orchestration tools and or scripting utilizing Python/Ansible coding language
• SME knowledge documenting existing and future state architecture
• SME knowledge developing network design documents and deployment guides
• Demonstrated experience presenting and communicating to executive leadership
• SME experience with capacity planning and forecasting
• Experience maintaining and managing critical network infrastructure for Large Campus and Data Center environments.
• Extensive knowledge of PC/LAN communications hardware/software, in a multi-protocol environment with network management software.
• Considerable knowledge in the installation and configuration of Network infrastructure and security.
Preferred Qualification
• Associate’s degree in computer science or related field with five (5) years of experience in data communications troubleshooting.
• Networking Certification with Microsoft or Cisco systems strongly preferred.
• Network operations supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of network monitoring software (Avaya Unified Communication manager, Avaya Wireless management software and Avaya Device manager) a plus.
Minimum Qualifications
• Requires a High School Diploma with seven (7) years of experience in data communications troubleshooting.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a city driver’s permit.
Salary
$81,485 - $101-855 Commensurate with Experience

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.
