Summary

This position is responsible for accounting and reporting activities for the Fixed Assets program at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Responsibilities include: ensuring all of the Airport’s tangible and intangible assets are properly recorded, disposed and retired according to applicable City of Charlotte regulations as well as workflow approval of assets and reconciliation of various reports to the financial system of record. Additionally, this position will assist in preparing and maintaining the Capital Equipment List and serve as primary back up to other accountants and assist with routine and special projects within Aviation’s Financial Reporting section.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare asset booking documents for the Aviation Department.

• Coordinate with the Rates and Charges team on annual assets for rates and charges reconciliation.

• Prepare required documentation related to asset values and useful life.

• Monitor capital project progress and make recommendations regarding appropriate timing of asset capitalization.

• Prepare and submit required paperwork for retiring or disposing of assets.

• Work with Records Manager to retain needed asset documentation and disposal of records in accordance with legal retention schedules.

• Lead annual physical inventory of department assets.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of GASB (Governmental Accounting Standards Board) and GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) pertaining to capital assets.

• Knowledge of inventory management.

• Computer skills with emphasis on Access, Excel and Word.

• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other City departments and the public, representing the airport in a positive manner.

• Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to prepare and present clear and concise reports, correspondence and other written materials.

• Ability to analyze statistical and historical data, apply and use results for process changes, report writing and presentations.

• Ability to complete projects accurately and on schedule.

 

 

Preferred Qualification

• Experience with capital assets and inventory management.

• Major course work in accounting, business administration, public administration or related field.  

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's level degree and one year relevant experience.

 

Conditions of Employment
