Summary

The Store Clerk maintains inventory located in CATS’ South Boulevard and North Brevard light rail vehicle maintenance facility (VMF). The VMF is a seven day; twenty-four hours; three hundred sixty-five-day operation.  The Store Clerk maintains all reports and files, shipping records and correspondence. Maintains supply or transportation discrepancies, prepares documents for disposition along with identify hazardous material. Verifies material safety concerns, performs causative research for stock discrepancies, process material issued from stock. Verifies material for special handling, generate shipping documents, performs inventory. Stow incoming material, organize stowage, monitors warehouse for proper stowage. Process receipt transactions, correct disputes with vendors and maintain receipt records. Validate inventory adjustments, monitor warehouse logs for proper maintenance, monitors material issue documents, receipt processing and manage tool control program. Candidates must pass an oral test and interview to be considered for the final review process. Must be able to assume flexible work shifts, including day, night, and weekends.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

1.       Posses the ability to process commercial shipping to offsite areas for critically required material for offsite projects
2.       Identify and inventory line items to enhance CATS warehouse inventory stock levels with mins and max level while staying within compliance
3.       Process work orders for departments requesting repair items from stock
4.       Conduct retro grade tracking for repair turn in items received from rail car maintenance to ensure proper tracking and return of the repaired item
5.       Assist departmental customer daily ensuring efficient and prompt service with the direct reflection of CATS light rail mission
6.       Perform in-depth causative research for items that may require relocation or found not in stock to bring forth to managers attention
7.       Identify storeroom stock to determine stock levels based on departmental demand 8.       Ability read and understand items part catalogue to better assist in identifying repair parts per part number assignment
9.       Screen and check all incoming shipped material from various vendors and log appropriate material within CATS serial number log or warehouse receiving log for tracking of critical components.
10.   Screen all storeroom stock for proper labeling and stowage to minimize damage
11.   Have meticulous attention to detail for requisitioned items tracked and submitted for follow-up for outstanding stock items and direct turn over.
12.   Maintain 100% accountability of all hazmat items within the storeroom while improving the shelf life program  
13.   Ability to address items within the warehouse for the purpose of relocation and sorting of like items
14.   Maintain required forms, records, correspondence reports and files according to CATS Rail Inventory program.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

1.       Candidates should posses the technical knowledge and commitment of an experienced Store Clerk

7.       Safely operate a forklift
8.       Ability to communicate effectively and clearly in English both orally and in writing skills including all Microsoft Office programs.
9.       Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to attain a City driving permit.
10.   Must demonstrate a basic knowledge of utilizing Microsoft Office, maintenance management software and proficiency in navigation of a computer.  
11.   PC skills including all Microsoft Office programs.
12.   Ability to pack, ship and track all incoming and outgoing packages using all available modes of transportation
13.   Ability to identify serial numbers and part numbers in relation to handling of parts
14.   Posses the ability to allocate more space within a storeroom for the receival of incoming parts

Preferred Qualification

Prefer an Associate’s Degree in business, transportation, or related field from
an accredited college or university. 

Minimum Qualifications

A High School diploma or equivalent. Prefer an associate degree / Certificate in Inventory, Distribution and warehousing (CEU CREDIT) or related field from an accredited college or university.

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte.
