Summary

The Center for Digital Government named Charlotte one of the top five digital cities in the nation. The City of Charlotte's Innovation & Technology department (I&T) provides executive-level leadership, delivers technology services to city departments and partnership agencies, and coordinates information technology initiatives across the organization to support, enhance and advance citizen service delivery.

The Motorola Systems Technician is an entry level position within the Public Safety Communications Department.  This role is responsible for installing, programming, maintaining and repairing all fixed-end equipment associated with a Motorola 7x ASTRO 25 Multi-site IP Digital Radio Network integrated with Motorola Conventional VHF paging Simulcast Radio Network.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Complete required training & familiarization of radio / dispatch sites
Perform monthly site inspections & RF checks of radio towers
Support on-call roster for 24/7 repair & replace service calls
Daily support of break-fix items for trunked two-way radio communications / communication centers / radio dispatch console equipment & associated programming / patches / upgrades
General site maintenance & housekeeping of radio tower sites / communication centers
Customer support / training for Network Management Clients & MCC7500 series consoles
Network Backhaul troubleshooting / repair / programming / circuit provisioning on Nokia 9500 & 7705 routers
Troubleshooting & repair of conventional simulcast VHF paging systems

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Experience in installation / maintenance of RF theory & LAN/WAN networks 
Experience in specialized knowledge of:
o electronics theory
o circuit design
o operation 
o maintenance of various types of communications & electronic equipment 

Preferred Qualification

Bachelor’s degree 
Motorola Training with certificates on:
o Advanced Networking
o Astro 25 IP Simulcast
o Astro 25 System Administration
o MCC7500 Consoles
o Astro 25 GTR 8000 Repeater
o Astro 25 M Core

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree with one year of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties 

Salary

$63,846 - $68,495; Commensurate with Experience
