This is a frontline working supervisory position responsible for providing direction to the staff of Rail Car Leads, Senior Technicians, Rail Maintenance Assistants and Technicians of the Charlotte Area Transit System Rail Car Maintenance department.
The Rail Car Maintenance Supervisor will provide guidance of repairs for Siemens S70 Light Rail Vehicles and Street Cars’ systems and subsystems encompassing electronic, mechanical and electro-mechanical maintenance work.
The incumbent will supervise, direct, and perform complex and specialized troubleshooting. Responsible for the supervision of shifts, adherence to LRV revenue requirements, and reviewing of associated administrative documentation to verify completion of preventive and corrective maintenance. This position has considerable latitude for independent judgment and action within established guidelines.
Personnel in this class are for supervising, providing guidance and working with personnel in the inspection, repair, calibration, overhaul, and modification of a variety of electronic and electro-mechanical equipment in a shop environment on the shift which assigned. This position reports to the Rail Car Maintenance Manager.

Physical Requirements:
Principles of organization, motivation, supervision, and personnel management; Theory, operation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of light rail vehicles including the repair of electrical/electronic components, truck overhaul, wheel truing, air conditioning, heating, hydraulic brake systems, and other related repairs; Principles of electricity, electronics, and digital circuits; Industrial safety and general shop safety rules and regulations and hazardous materials handling, and storage regulations as applied to rail maintenance shops; Theory, the operation and use of computers and computerized diagnostic and test equipment.
Ability To:
Education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the above tasks and possession of the following knowledge and abilities:
Development of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities obtained through training, education, and experience equivalent to five (5) years and/or supervision of rail maintenance, electronics, industrial maintenance and operational knowledge.
Graduation from an accredited college with an associate degree supplemented with six (6) years’ experience in electrical, electronic, hydraulic, mechanical, or an equivalent combination of post-high school education with more than eight (8) years of experience in maintenance craft (electrical, electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, or machinist) directly related to rail transit.
This position is considered “Safety Sensitive” under FTA guidelines and will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing. Candidates must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen, criminal background, and DMV check.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
