Coordinates
and monitors personnel activities; may be required to review performance
appraisals and prepare the appropriate forms for those directly reporting to
the Fire Chief’s Office along with supporting documents

Creates
and maintains various program information and databases using database and
spreadsheet software.
4.
Serves
as staff assistant to Fire Chief and the Deputy Chiefs; conducts research and
special studies, compiling data and reports on topics of administrative
interest; gathers data, performs some minor analysis makes recommendations for
review by a supervisor, and prepares reports on operating and administrative
topics.
5.
Research,
organize, and draft responses to inquiries, speeches and public announcements
with staff for the Fire Chief’s Office.
6.
Review
and handle a variety of sensitive and confidential information.
7.
Maintain
policies and procedures manuals by making changes/updates as they occur for
departmental staff.
8.
Prepares,
submits and files personnel forms and other pertinent related information for
the Fire Chief, Deputy Chiefs, and other key staff as needed.
9.
Works
extensively in various ways for KBE in dealing with other City government and
other agencies such as MEDIC, CPCC, and UNCC.
10.
Maintains
Fire Chief and Deputy Chief’s appointment calendar; schedules appointments and
coordinates meetings and travel arrangements for administrative superior and
immediate staff; P-Card reconciliation; may take meeting minutes and
disseminate to attendees; and other administrative tasks as needed.
11. Supports Fire Chief
in his various extracurricular roles; planning/coordinating special events for
the FCO, IAFC activities, NFPA Board member activities.
12. Coordinate and manage
staff as detailed or assigned by the Fire Chief.
Completion
of a two – year college curriculum with major course work in business or public
administration, accounting, or a field related to the department’s operation,
preferably with graduation from a four – year college or university with
related major course work.
The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.
Background checks must be in compliance with all federal and state statutes, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate’s written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.
Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
