Summary

The Center for Digital Government named Charlotte one of the top five digital cities in the nation. The City of Charlotte's Innovation & Technology department (I&T) provides executive-level leadership, delivers technology services to city departments and partnership agencies, and coordinates information technology initiatives across the organization to support, enhance and advance citizen service delivery.  

The Middleware Specialist is the primary support person for managing the application servers for the Banner CIS application. The technical environment includes Oracle databases and application servers, Linux OS, and Microsoft Active Directory integration. The candidate will work closely and in partnership with various operational support teams, development teams, project managers, vendors, and internal clients. The goal is to ensure that the application server infrastructure is stable, reliable, and monitored.                

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install and configure WebLogic Application servers
  • Install and configure JBoss Application servers
  • Create and maintain Unix shell scripts · Provide backup Oracle DBA support
  • Responsible for troubleshooting and monitoring application servers
  • Provide 24x7 application server support
  • Install, configure, and maintain single sign-on, Oracle OID
  • Maintain LDAP integration with Oracle OID and Microsoft Active Directory
  • Apply patches for bug fixes and security vulnerabilities to application and database servers
  • Assist team with capacity planning 
  • Learn, build, configure, and maintain new middleware as new technologies are acquired
  •  Assist with managing and monitoring Oracle Dataguard
  • Build and maintain failover capability
  • Backup and restore middleware servers
  • Provide technical support during application upgrade effort which includes data conversion through full lifecycle
  • Participate in scheduled disaster recovery failover testing

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Intermediate knowledge of Linux and shell scripting
  • Intermediate PL/SQL programming skills
  • Intermediate Oracle DBA experience
  • Intermediate knowledge of web application middle tier technologies such as JBoss or WebLogic
  • Basic knowledge of information technology infrastructure technologies and operations
  • Working knowledge of ITSM change control processes
  • Basic knowledge of LDAP
  • Experience with Oracle development and administration tools such as Enterprise Manager and TOAD
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Possess strong teamwork and communication skills

   Bachelor’s degree with three (3) years of relevant work experience; or an or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties

$80,281-$98,227; Commensurate with Experience

Conditions of Employment
