Summary

Airport Operations Officers perform skilled work, including safety and security inspections of the airfield, runways, and terminal facilities and relaying emergency and non-emergency information.  Operate and monitor communications equipment, such as radios, telephones, visual data terminals, computers and building systems.  Must be able to assess situations quickly, objectively and determine the proper course of action within established rules, regulations and procedures while representing CLT in a professional, positive manner.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

1.     Interpret and adhere to Federal regulations, procedures and instructions to ensure the safety of persons and security of airport property.

2.     Assess situations quickly, objectively and determine the proper course of action.

3.     Monitor and inspect, for safety and security purposes, the airfield, runways, taxiways, runway and apron lighting and terminal facilities; identify problems and report appropriately.

4.     Communicate effectively; operate a variety of communications equipment; transmit and receive emergency and non-emergency information; maintain logs and records.

5.     Respond to calls for service both inside and outside; follow complex instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships; assist with special events; provide courier service.

6.    Provide assistance to the airlines, tenants, traveling public and other employees as needed.

7.     Provide ramp escorts to authorized visitors and contractors.

8.     Identify and determine general nature, location, urgency and extent of problems.  Determine priority, relay and follow complex oral and written instructions.  Act decisively and exercise independent judgment within established rules, regulations and procedures.

9.     Prepare and maintain logs, records and reports.

10.  Use the following equipment and systems in the Control Room: Lighting detection, DTN weather, crash phone, metasys, radio dispatching, airport paging, check point alarms, automated records management system (ARMS), ADEMCO digital alarm system,, American Dynamics video panel, fire panel, computerized logs, network recorder; TTY phone, flight information display system (FIDS) and access door intercom. 

11.    Prepare Notices to Airmen (NOTAMS) and distribute to appropriate air carriers and government agencies. 

12.     Assist in preparation of Aviation Director’s notices.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Thorough knowledge of FAR Parts 139 and 77 as well as TSR Part 1542 required.  

Skills to communicate clearly and effectively verbally in person, over telephone and two-way radio.  

Skills to communicate clearly and effectively in writing.

Skills to effectively organize data and prioritize resources during routine and special operations.

Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other agencies, tenants, employees and the public, representing CLT in a professional, positive manner.

Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency and stressful situations.  

Must be able to assess situations quickly, objectively and determine the proper course of action within established rules, regulations and procedures.

Ability to achieve AMA driving status within 90 days of hire date.  

Preferred Qualification

Prefer at least one year experience at a FAR Part 139 certified airport.  Prefer AAAE ACE (Operations) or Certified Member designation.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Graduate or Equivalent and five years related work experience

OR

Associate's Degree and three years related work experience

Conditions of Employment
