Summary Statement

Incumbents in this class are responsible for conducting fire and life safety code compliance inspections.

Nature and Scope

A class incumbent works under the general supervision of a technical superior. Work involves regularly scheduled and complaint response inspections of day care centers and group community homes to determine compliance with fire and life safety codes. A significant aspect of this work involves recommending approval/disapproval of licensing.

  • Ensures day care centers and group homes comply with local, state and federal fire and life safety codes.
     
  • Explains code requirements and recommends corrective actions to gain compliance.

  • Knowledge of state and federal laws, rules and regulations applicable to signed area.
  • Knowledge of fire technology including fire/smoke detection devices; and construction methods and materials.
  • Skill in interpreting and applying fire and life safety codes.
  • Ability to prepare required reports.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Fire Inspector
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Knowledge of conducting inspections to ensure compliance with laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
  2. Knowledge of applying national and local building and fire codes.
