Introduction

The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Department is looking for a self motivated, experienced

Plumber

to provide plumbing services for the Parks and Recreation parks, pools, and various facilities.

General Description

The Parks and Recreation Plumber will maintain, inspect, repair, and install plumbing, commercial irrigation and related systems, and components. Our Plumbers works independently with little to no supervision.

Essential Functions

Upgrades and installs plumbing, commercial irrigation, and related systems and components

Maintains and repairs equipment, systems and components by running tests, inspecting and replacing parts, identifying maintenance needs, and flushing out systems

Maintains fueling facilities by servicing and repairing pumps, hoses, valves, filters, piping, motors, controls, wiring, and hydraulic equipment

Reviews and revises plans, oversees plumbing installations, and plans and reviews site inspections

Winterizes, summerizes, and maintains coolers and cell decks, tests and inspects for leaks, maintains potable water and sewer systems, and conducts blue staking

Diagnosis, troubleshoot and make necessary repairs to bring facility back on line as soon as possible

Performs routine preventative maintenance and critical repair and replacement of City buildings components and systems

Completes requisitions, develops and implements new procedures, directs work with outside contractors, submits work requests, monitors work in progress, and approves work upon completion

Occasionally directs helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, volunteers or temporary employees and may temporarily act in a higher capacity

Performs related work as required

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: High School

Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 4 years maintaining, inspecting, repairing, and installing plumbing at the journey-level

Valid and Unrestricted Class D - Driver's License

Selection Plan

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will then be invited to participate in an Oral Board interview.   

  • Oral Board Interviews will be held: the week of June 26, 2023

Upon completion of all examination processes, the highest scoring applicants will be placed on the Civil Service Eligibility List.  An applicant's ranking on the Civil Service Eligibility list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:      

  • 20% of your rating for education and work experience
  • 80% of your oral board interview   

Selection Interviews may be conducted post Civil Service Eligibility List by the Hiring Manager.

This recruitment will establish a Civil Service Eligibility List that will be utilized to fill vacancies occurring within Parks and Recreation the next 6 months.

Veterans, Native American, or Disability preference points will be added to the final score for those that are placed on the Civil Service Eligibility List.  If you qualify for preference points as outlined in the Employment Profile, you must present your documentation at the Oral Board interviews.  The DD 214 must be a copy that indicates characterization of service.
