The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Department is looking for energetic and enthusiastic
SENIOR RECREATION WORKERS
to work with our Ready, Set, Rec Mobile Recreation Program.
This is a non-permanent position that will work on an intermittent or seasonal basis.
Individuals in this classification may not exceed 1,300 hours per fiscal year. (July 1 - June 30)
This position could work 3-5 days per week, including weekends.
Under general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, the Senior Recreation Worker will work with a Recreation Worker and lead the Ready, Set, Rec Mobile Recreation Program which includes loading/unloading and transporting equipment in an assigned cargo van; setting-up and leading activities for site participants; promoting and providing participants with information for up-coming events; and does related work as required including working at Recreation Centers and assistant with department events.
Occasionally directs helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, volunteers or temporary employees and may temporarily act in a higher capacity
Maintains appropriate communication with participants, general public, and all other recreation staff members
Plans, organizes, schedules, facilitates, and evaluates recreation programs and activities in the area assigned
Loads and unloads cargo van with recreation equipment
Performs pre-trip inspection safety checklist
Transports equipment to scheduled designation
Monitors recreation activities at locations to ensure the safety of participants and all equipment used
Assures that facilities and equipment are in good order and arranged to meet the requirements of scheduled users
Stocks and organizes equipment in warehouse for proper storage
Documents all accidents, situations, disturbances, and problems including injuries and behavioral incidents
Provides customer service in person or on the phone by describing City Parks and Recreation programs to the public, responding to inquiries, or scheduling of facilities as requested
Attending all City of Tucson required training
Administers and adheres to all policies and procedures of the department and City
Adheres to policies and procedures and reports accidents and hazardous conditions immediately to a supervisor
Minimum Education Level & Type: Less than High School
Minimum Experience Qualifications: Six months of full-time employment and/or volunteer experience involving customer contact
Certification in CPR/First-Aid
Must possess a valid and unrestricted Drivers License with at least two years of driving experience, and a cleaning driving record
Completion of Fleet Driver Training upon hire
Ability to lift 30 lbs.
At least 18 years of age at time of application
Six months of work or volunteer experience in providing customer service, and planning and implementing recreation programs and services for youth and adults in a formal setting such as public sector, YMCA, or faith-based organization
Ability to lift 50 lbs
Trailer Training Certification
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will be invited to participate in an Oral Board Interview.
The highest scoring applicants will be placed in the "Best Qualified" and "Qualified" band (grouping) and provided to the hiring department for a selection decision. An applicant's placement on the list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:
