Introduction


The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a qualified and dedicated  
PARKS MAINTENANCE COORDINATOR AQUATICS MAINTENANCE
 This is a supervisor position providing guidance to other positions performing the same tasks and ensuring pools and splash pads are clean and safe for the members of the public to enjoy.  
 The ideal candidate will enjoy multi-tasking, had strengths in organization, communication, and thinking on their feet. As well as a passion for public service and wanting to deliver the highest level of aquatics experiences to the public.

General Description

The Parks Maintenance Coordinator oversees and assists aquatics staff with the maintenance and repair of pools and splash pads. The Parks Maintenance Coordinator inspects all aquatics amenities, equipment and pool and splash pad facilities for proper function and safety.

Essential Functions

This is a supervisor position affording guidance to other positions performing the same tasks. This supervisor position also reviews workloads, assigns work and coaches employees with specialized instructions and practices for job accomplishments.

Supervisors may contribute to other employees' performance evaluations, assist with the hiring process by interviewing and making recommendations and providing input to supervisory staff. Supervises and coordinates the equivalent of one or more fulltime employees.

Manages, coordinates, and determines priorities of work load, monitors levels of resources, establishes time lines, assigns work, monitors progress, recommends changes and provides suggestions, writes, reviews and edits reports, maintains logs, and approves completed projects.

Assists with the implementation, evaluation and interpretation of department policies, projects and procedures.

Implements controls for appropriate unit staffing and effectiveness by participating in the recruitment and hiring of employees, making recommendations on employee discipline, and other human resources issues, evaluating and managing employee performance, discussing and identifying personnel issues and facilitating resolutions, promoting positive morale in the unit, ensuring staff is trained appropriately for maximum performance, and providing leadership and guidance.

Collaborates with other staff in department to achieve operational goals or special projects. Contributes to the needs of the community and City by implementing and causing others to implement the organization's values and strategies by leading through example, competency, and accountabilities.

Provides customer service by responding to information requests, conducting research, attending site visits with fellow staff and residents, providing solutions to problems, and correcting errors.

Ensures that unit work conforms to local, state, and federal governmental regulations, and other applicable rules and requirements.

Oversees and assists with the maintenance of aquatics facilities by checking the chemical balance of pools and splash pads,  the aquatic mechanical systems operation, repairs and maintenance of commercial swimming pools to include pools and splash pad amenities. 

Nature of work can include nights, weekends and holidays as needed by operational function of department.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position may be considered.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 1 year maintaining facilities and grounds

Valid and Unrestricted Class D - Driver's License

Special Job Requirements

Certified Pesticide Applicator License required before the end of the probationary period

Selection Plan

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will then be invited to participate in an Written examination and Oral Board Interview process.

  • Written Exam and Oral Board Interview will be held: the week of April 3, 2023

Upon completion of all examination processes, the highest scoring applicants will be placed on an Civil Service Eligibility List. An applicant's ranking on the list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:

  • 10% of your rating for education and work experience
  • 25% of your rating for written exam
  • 65% of your rating for oral board interview

Selection Interviews may be conducted post-list by the Hiring Manager.

This recruitment will establish a Civil Service Eligibility List that will be utilized to fill all vacancies occurring within the next 6 months.

Veterans, Native American, or Disability preference points will be added to the final score for those that are placed on the Civil Service Employment List.  If you qualify for preference points as outlined in the Employment Profile, you must present your documentation at the Oral Board interviews.  The DD 214 must be a copy that indicates characterization of service.
