To remain eligible, you must maintain your permanent or probationary Civil Service employment status with the Department of Transportation & Mobility, through the actual date of transfer. If you are not a current permanent or probationary Civil Service employee at the date of transfer, you will not be eligible for this position. Non-permanent or appointed employees are not eligible.

The Department of Transportation a Lead Traffic Control Technician in the Sign Shop of our Traffic Maintenance Division.  This is a Lead  position that directly support the Department of Transportation's mission to create and operate a safe and reliable multi-modal system for moving people and goods throughout our community.

Primary function of this position is to lead and oversee the manufacturing, installing and repair of street signs for the sign shop. The selected individual will also over see the setting up of safety equipment and traffic control devices to ensure a safe work zone for safety of the work crews and the motoring public.

 

General Description

Leads Traffic Control Technicians in the design, repair, removal and installation of street signs and roadway markings.
Maintains related records. 
This position will be on an a eight hour work shift, 5 days a week

Essential Functions

This is a lead position affording guidance to other positions performing the same tasks. This lead position also reviews workloads, assigns work and coaches employees with specialized instructions and practices for job accomplishments. Lead personnel may contribute to other employees' performance evaluations, assist with the hiring process by interviewing and making recommendations and providing input to supervisory staff.

Installs and repairs street signs by driving to locations, setting up safety equipment, removing damaged signs and posts, setting up temporary signs, measuring and marking blue stake area, receiving clearance, and installing new signs and posts.

Manufactures street signs by entering information into the computer, printing lettering, applying sign face to metal surfaces, silk-screening, punching, drilling, and assembling signs.

Maintains daily activities records by logging job assignments, materials used, mileage and traveled time spent, and entering data into the computer.

Repairs mechanical equipment, and contacts vendors, suppliers, and specialty stores for materials.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: 6 months post High School

Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 2 years assisting in the installation of street signs

Valid and unrestricted class D

Special Job Requirements

Forklift Operator Certification

Traffic Control Certification

This position will be on an a eight hour work shift, 5 days a week

Selection Plan

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions, will be invited to participate in an oral board interview.

Oral Board Interviews will be held: Thursday, February 9, 2023

Upon completion of all examination processes, the highest scoring applicants will be placed on an Eligibility List.  An applicant's ranking on the list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:

  • 10% of your rating for education and work experience
  • 90% of you rating for oral board
The list may be used by the Transportation Department with an approved vacancy to fill in the next 6 months. Selection will be made in accordance with CSR III, Section 2. The list of employees eligible for consideration will remain in effect for 6 months after their names are provided to the hiring authorities. Examination results and current status will be communicated by email.
