Introduction

General Description

The Department's work hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. 

Qualified Spanish-speaking candidates are eligible to receive an additional $30 per pay period after successful completion of a communicative examination.

Essential Functions

The Customer Service Representative

  • Provides friendly customer service by answering telephones, greeting customers, providing information, processes applications for service, responding to requests, handling problems and irate customers, researching inquiries and discrepancies, following up on complaints and concerns and coordinating and communicating with field personnel.
  • Performs related duties such as: inputting, processing, and issuing permit applications, assigning file-case numbers, inspecting, and cutting film, receiving and processing plans, fulfilling public records requests, processing permit payments and scanning documents.
  • Performs clerical duties by preparing and maintaining files, records and logs, picking up and distributing mail, maintaining and ordering supplies, entering and correcting information in the computer system, completing, distributing and processing work orders, transcribing documents, processing time cards and payroll, maintaining schedules and calendars, preparing travel orders, correspondence, purchase orders, and various reports and forms, processing various customer billings, copying, faxing, accepting deliveries, and notifying appropriate staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 1 year experience in customer service and operation of a computer and office equipment, and handling money and other forms of payment

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the Minimum Qualifications listed above, the ideal candidate will also have experience working with municipalities, and have experience utilizing permitting systems.

Selection Plan

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will then be invited to participate in virtual Oral Board Interviews.  

  • Virtual Oral Board Interviews will be held the week of January 9, 2023.

*It is important to note that the City of Tucson uses Microsoft Teams for its virtual interviews. Please ensure that you have access to this software application.

Upon completion of all examination processes, the highest scoring applicants will be placed on the Civil Service Employment List.  An applicant's ranking on the Civil Service list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:      

  • 20% of your rating for education and work experience
  • 80% of your oral board interview   

This recruitment will establish a civil service list that will be utilized to fill vacancies occurring within the next 6 months.

Veterans, Native American, or Disability preference points will be added to the final score for those that are placed on the Civil Service Employment List.  If you qualify for preference points as outlined in the Employment Profile, email your documentation  to Randall.Moehr@tucsonaz.gov when you are invited to the interviews.  The DD 214 must be a copy that indicates characterization of service.
