City of Tucson's Transportation Department is seeking qualified Survey Instrument Technicians to join our diverse, vibrant, progressive and engaged workforce. Survey Instrument Technicians perform technical survey engineering work as a member of a survey field crew. Survey Instrument Technicians gather measured data by operating various mechanical, optical and electronic survey instruments and devices. They operate transits, levels, theodolites or electronic measuring devices and GPS to establish the location of points and lines. Finally, Survey Instrument technicians may act as a Survey Crew Chief in their absence.
Sets up
and operates land survey equipment to measure land area boundaries and
topographic features. Records field notes and calculations and interprets maps.
Occasionally directs helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, volunteers or temporary employees and may temporarily act in a higher capacity.
Conducts surveys by setting up and operating survey instrumentation, making observations, preparing notes of topographical features, as-built plans, and related information, interpreting maps and specifications, and performing calculations.
Provides assistance to personnel by clearing survey areas, locating markers, setting pins, hubs, benchmarks, and staking pins.
Generates computer aided drawings, maintains equipment, conducts research, and provides assistance with calculations and field book entry.
Minimum Education Level & Type: 6 months post High School
Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 1 year conducting land surveys
