The City of Tucson Information Technology Department is seeking collaborative, customer service centric and detail-oriented Supervisor to join our End User Computing team. As a Supervisor in the End User Computing team, you will enable all City business by using your team to maintain the City’s desktop computing environment and delivering exceptional customer service and technical desktop support to all City employees.

General Description

Manages information technology personnel and systems. Directs the development and maintenance of information technology programs.

Essential Functions

This position is a first-level supervisor in the IT family of classifications.

Regularly directs or supervises the work of at least two fulltime employees at the supervisor level in the section. Coordinates assigned personnel and their projects ensuring timely and quality activities for the benefit of the section, division, department, City and the community.

Assists with the implementation and evaluation of department policies, programs, projects and procedures.

Assists with implementing the department vision through section activities and leads the section to maximum employee productivity and morale through hiring, disciplining, evaluating employee performance, and other coordinating human resources actions.

Implements the values of the organization through example and accountabilities.

Ensures that section operations conform with local, state, and federal governmental regulations and other applicable rules and requirements.

Facilitates solutions to problems facing the department. Maintains technical or professional knowledge through such means as attending seminars, reviewing professional publications, taking classes and participating in developmental activities.

Provides advice and direction to technical and professional employees on matters pertaining to systems development, quality assurance, computing and telecommunications equipment requirements and staffing.

Participates in the development and continuing refinement of the City's critical systems-related programs.

Develops the migration and integration of the City's separate systems into an enterprise-wide architecture.

Resolves customer service issues by meeting with customers, researching service problems, identifying problems and providing solutions.

Manages and directs projects by developing timelines and project parameters, reviewing and approving plans and documents, devising solutions to problems, ensuring projects are completed effectively and efficiently, reviewing and approving agreements, authorizing payments, conducting and attending meetings and meeting with associated parties.

Performs administrative duties by preparing and reviewing reports and correspondence, reviewing and developing policies and procedures, providing advice, researching and analyzing information.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: Bachelor's Degree

Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 3 years of experience in information technology

Upon completion of all examination processes, the highest scoring applicants will be placed on the Civil Service Employment List.  An applicant's ranking on the Civil Service list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:                               

  • 15% based on your training and education  
  • 85% based on your panel board interview  

This recruitment will establish a civil service list that will be utilized to fill vacancies occurring within the next 6 months.
