Introduction


The City of Tucson Information Technology Department (ITD) provides support services for all departments within the City, including citizen services, public safety, public works, back-office business applications, project management, analytics & GIS, and web applications. Additionally, the City has become a direct provisioner of wireless services to eligible community members through the newly established  Community Wireless Program.  The diversity of City business functions and supporting technologies makes for a dynamic work environment that is both challenging and rewarding. 

This is a part time position with flexibility to adjust hours according to class schedule and study demands.
Preference will be given to those candidates who have interest and availability to work during the upcoming school year

General Description

Network Technician Interns assist Network Engineers with supporting complex network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, security  applicants, wireless controllers and access points. This challenging and unique position involves working as part of a highly-specialized information technology team focused on supporting various City departments.

This position may require collaborating with others outside direct reporting relationships on specific problems or general policies. 

Essential Functions

Install computer network equipment including cabling

Decommission old network equipment and cabling

Troubleshoot and fix problems in the City of Tucson network

Assist with deployment of new technology

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: 6 months post High School and current enrollment in a college institution or equivalent coursework; Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Geographic Information Systems or other relevant major.  

Minimum Experience Qualifications: No Experience
