Introduction

The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Department is seeking motivated

PARKS EVENT WORKERS

to work in the support of events with the department

General Description

This non-permanent position will work on an intermittent or seasonal basis.

Individuals in this classification may not exceed 1,300 hours in 12 months.

The Parks Event Worker position entails working predominantly on evenings and weekends on an intermittent basis, and performs a variety of services in the production of concerts, special events, parades, public observances, and dedication ceremonies at City facilities. Performs set-up and breakdown of stage and seating areas for social and civic events performances, and concerts.

Essential Functions

Provides excellent customer service to all organizers and user groups

Communicates and behaves in a courteous and professional manner with organizers, the general public and fellow staff members

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with the ability to learn new skills, adapt to changing circumstances and event needs, and effectively problem solve

Assists in venue and technical set up and preparation for a variety of events including, but not limited to, concerts, performances, festivals, fairs and community activities

Assists with all aspects of events and performs a variety of technical and manual work

Assists with striking of all technical and front of house equipment including, but not limited to, speakers, microphones, cabling, lighting, tables, chairs, tents and signage

Assists with preparation and cleanup of park locations before and after activities and events

Assists with technical equipment cleaning and maintenance and reporting of equipment needs, deficiencies and repairs

Assists with maintaining technical equipment and supply inventories

Loads, unloads and transports technical equipment and supplies to a variety of park locations for events

Assists in maintaining a clean and safe work environment and may require occasional custodial duties

Attends all City of Tucson required training

Adheres to all safety policies and procedures and reports accidents and hazardous conditions as required by the City of Tucson

Adheres to all policies and procedures of the Parks and Recreation department and City of Tucson

Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. Any one position may not include all of the duties listed

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: Less than High School

Minimum Experience Qualifications:

Must be 18 years of age

Special Job Requirements

Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment frequently

Must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certification

Must be able to complete Forklift training

Must be able to complete Fleet Driver Training

Selection Plan

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on their employment profile's education, work experience, and response to the supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will be invited to participate in an Oral Board Interview.

  • Oral Board Interviews will be held: the Week of May 23, 2022

The highest scoring applicants will be placed in the "Best Qualified" and "Qualified" band (grouping) and provided to the hiring department for a selection decision. An applicant's placement on the list will be based on their final score, which will be calculated as:

  • 20% of your rating for Training and Experience
  • 80% of your Oral Board Interview
