The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Department is seeking an
AQUA FITNESS INSTRUCTOR
instruct various levels of group aquatic fitness classes
at the Edith Ball Adaptive Recreation Center
This is a non-permanent position that will work on an intermittent basis.
Individuals in this classification may not exceed 1,300 hours in a 12 month period.
The Edith Ball Adaptive Recreation Center (ARC) is an award -winning facility that offers a unique experience for all participants. The outdoor covered Recreation Pool offers a variety of fitness classes, lap swim, and open swim to enjoy the walking channel and play features in the zero-depth area. The indoor, warm water Therapy Pool provides individuals with disabilities an opportunity to experience benefits including increased range of motion flexibility, relief of pain due to arthritis or other conditions, and overall relaxation. Both the Recreation Pool and Therapy Pool are fully accessible.
Conducts instructions in aquatic fitness classes in connection with the fee instruction program offered to the public by the Parks and Recreation Department
Maintains interest and participation in ARC fitness and wellness programs by conducting classes that are fun, energized and innovative
Maintains contact with participants in the pool and other applicable areas by having a friendly, reassuring presence that builds trust and safety with our participants
Keeps the pool area clean and clear of debris, trip hazards, or other possible injury hazards. Reports any equipment in need of repair
Uses practical and current knowledge and skills to guide and teach participants in aquatic fitness settings
Communicates and enforces facility and class policies and procedures
Responds to emergency situations as required and maintains accurate accident and incident reports
Provides excellent customer service, including interacting with participants and/or parents to answer questions and resolve problems. Must be able to maintain a calm composure when working with angry or upset customers
Adheres to applicable Parks and Recreation procedures, rules and regulations; completed required forms and activity records and reports; communicates with parents and participants, as needed
Minimum Education Level & Type: 6 months post High School
Minimum Experience Qualifications: 1 year and over in a specialized recreational area
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on their employment profile's education, work experience, and response to the supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will be invited to participate in an Oral Board Interview.
The highest scoring applicants will be placed in the "Best Qualified" and "Qualified" band (grouping) and provided to the hiring department for a selection decision. An applicant's placement on the list will be based on their final score, which will be calculated as:
