RECREATION PROGRAM COORDINATOR

who has demonstrated leadership in all aspects of recreation programming and planning

General Description

The Recreation Program Coordinator manages recreation personnel in developing and implementing recreation programs. Manages facility operations and provides service to the public.

Essential Functions

Coordinates a program within the department and uses independent judgment for the following:

Supervises and coordinates the equivalent of two or more fulltime employees and all assigned work in a unit ensuring timely and quality activities to respond to the needs of the City, community, department, and unit.

Assists with the implementation, evaluation and interpretation of department policies, projects and procedures.

Manages, coordinates, and determines priorities of work load, monitoring levels of resources, establishing time lines, assigning work, monitoring progress, recommending changes and suggestions, writing, reviewing and editing reports prepared by staff, and approving completed projects and reports.

Implements controls for appropriate unit staffing and effectiveness by participating in the recruitment and hiring of employees, making recommendations on employee discipline, and other human resources issues, evaluating and managing employee performance, discussing and identifying personnel issues and facilitating resolutions, promoting positive morale in the unit, ensuring staff is trained appropriately for maximum performance, and providing leadership and guidance.

Contributes to the needs of the community and City by implementing and causing others to implement the organization's values and strategies by leading through example, competency, and accountabilities.

Provides customer service by responding to information requests, conducting research, providing solutions to problems, and correcting errors.

Ensures that unit work conforms to local, state, and federal governmental regulations, and other applicable rules and requirements.

Develops, coordinates and oversees various types of recreation programs, classes and events by planning, implementing, scheduling and organizing programs and special events, promoting programs to the community, resolving problems, preparing and monitoring budgets, attending and conducting meetings, collaborating and coordinating with other departments and outside groups, observing and evaluating programs, procuring needed supplies and materials and assisting with the set-up, breakdown and transportation of equipment.

Manages facility operations by performing opening and closing procedures and securing facilities, handling monies, coordinating special events, promoting classes and programs, ensuring facility cleanliness and safety, supervising facility and equipment use, reporting problems, requesting work orders and setting up rooms for events.

Provides service to customers by greeting the public, promoting programs, surveying customer needs, providing resources and information, attending and conducting community meetings and events, responding to requests for information and resolving conflicts.

Processes time sheets, maintains and prepares reports and statistics, evaluates programs and designs, writes and prepares newsletters, calendars, flyers and brochures.

Completes requisitions, work orders and other documentation maintains and orders supplies and equipment.

Directs and oversees logistics and assists with budget preparation and tracking.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: 6 months post High School

Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 2 years of experience in developing and implementing recreation programs

Special Job Requirements

Valid and unrestricted Class D Driver's License at time of contingent job offer

Must be obtained within 60 days of contingent job offer:

  • Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation Certification
  • First-Aid Certification

Selection Plan

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will be invited to participate in an Oral Board Interview and Written Exam.

  • Oral Board Interview and Written Exam will be held: December 2021

Upon completion of all examination processes, the highest scoring applicants will be placed on the Civil Service Employment List. An applicant's ranking on the Civil Service Employment List will be base on their final score which will be calculated as:

  • 5% of your rating for education and work experience
  • 95% of your oral board interview and written exam

Selection Interview may be conducted post Civil Service Employment List by the Hiring Manager.

This recruitment will establish a civil service list that may be utilized to fill vacancies occurring at Parks and Recreation within the next 6 months.
