Introduction

The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Department is looking for energetic and enthusiastic

CLASS INSTRUCTORS

to plan and conduct specialized skill acquisitions classes

General Description

This is a non-permanent position that works on an intermittent or seasonal basis.

individuals in this classification may not exceed 1,300 hours in a 12 month period.

The Class Instructor provide services to the patrons of the City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Leisure Class programs and is responsible for planning and conducting of specialized skill acquisition classes. Please note the position of Class Instructor encompasses multiple specialized recreational areas and site locations, classes are held throughout the week, with various days and evening classes as well as on Saturdays.

Essential Functions

Conducts instruction in a specialized area in connection with the fee instruction program offered to the public by the Parks and Recreation Department.

Plans class instructional activities or general camp activities such as games, theme activities or field trips; prepares a course outline or a bi-weekly schedule and a list or lists of necessary course materials for class participants; schedules guest artists or speakers.

Supervises the activities of program participants to ensure participant safety during the instructional process; follows appropriate emergency procedures to protect the well-being of participants.

Assists in ensuring the general security and maintenance of Parks and Recreation facilities and equipment; inventories equipment.

Adheres to applicable Parks and Recreation procedures, rules and regulations; completes required forms and activity records and reports; communicates with the parents of school age participants, as needed.

Obtains and evaluates participant feedback regarding the effectiveness of the instructional process and the success of the program activity.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: 6 months post High School

Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 1 year in a specialized recreational area

Special Job Requirements

Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation Certification

First Aid Certification

Selection Plan

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the response to the supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will be invited to participate in an Oral Board Interview. 

  • Oral Board Interviews will be held: December 2021

The highest scoring applicants will be placed in the "Best Qualified" and "Qualified" band (grouping) and provided to the hiring department for a selection decision. An applicant’s placement on the list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as: 

  • 20% of your rating for Training and Experience
  • 80% of your Oral Board Interview
