Introduction


The Department of Transportation and Mobility's Traffic Maintenance Division is seeking a skilled Construction Maintenance Worker.  This position is responsible for locating and marking underground conduit systems associated with street lighting and traffic signal facilities.

General Description

Locates and marks underground conduit systems associated with street lighting and traffic signal facilities.

Essential Functions

Uses specialized tools, operates machinery and has knowledge regarding sites such as street lighting and traffic signal, capital improvement projects and associated electrical systems.

Operates equipment and machinery.

Able to read schematic diagrams and performs bluestaking associated with street lighting and traffic signal systems installation.

Performs related duties for departmental construction projects including attending pre-construction meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Minimum Experience and Qualifications: At least 2 years of experience installing, maintaining, repairing, and operating electrical conduit systems

Valid and Unrestricted Class D

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the installation of underground electrical systems
  • Basic computer skills

Selection Plan

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants may then be invited to participate in a Oral Board Interview

Upon completion of all processes, the highest scoring applicants will be placed on the Civil Service Employment List. An applicant's ranking on the Civil Service list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as: 

    10% of your rating for Education and Work Experience 
    90% of your rating for the Oral Board Interview

This recruitment will establish a civil service list that will be utilized to fill vacancies occurring within the next 6 months. Veterans, Native American, or Disability preference points will be added to the final score for those that are placed on the Civil Service Employment List. Conclusion

This position requires a satisfactory Criminal Background Check and Motor Vehicle History Report.  Reference checks may also be conducted prior to an offer of employment.  Employment offers are contingent upon successfully passing any of the above requirements.
The following information pertains to driving requirements for this classification with the City of Tucson. Under "Driving Level" None, Secondary or Primary, refers to the driving responsibility as it relates to the essential functions of the classification. License Type, is just that, the type of Arizona Driving License required for the classification. If the position requires a Commercial Drivers License (CDL), the endorsements will be listed under "Endorsements." Under Safety Sensitive a "Yes" means employees with this classification are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. License Type A,B,C,D, or M may require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Exceptions to classification driving requirement's may exist based on position.
