Introduction

The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Department is seeking qualified individuals for

PARKS MAINTENANCE COORDINATOR

to join the Parks and Recreation Maintenance Leadership Team

**THIS POSITION IS ONLY OPEN TO CURRENT CITY OF TUCSON PARKS AND RECREATION PERMANENT AND PROBATIONARY EMPLOYEES**

To remain eligible, you must maintain your permanent or probationary Civil Service employment status through the actual date of transfer. If you are not a current permanent or probationary Civil Service Parks and Recreation Department employee at the date of transfer, you will not be eligible for this position. Non-permanent or appointed employees are not eligible for this position.

The Eligibility List may be used by the Parks and Recreation Department with an approved vacancy to fill in the next 6 months. Selection will be made in accordance with CSR III, Section 2. The list of employees eligible for consideration will remain in effect for 6 months after their names are provided to the hiring authorities. Examination results and current status will be communicated by email.

General Description

The Parks Maintenance Coordinator oversees and assists park staff with the maintenance and repair of facilities and grounds. The Parks Maintenance Coordinator inspects park amenities, equipment and facilities for proper function and safety.

Essential Functions

This is a supervisor position affording guidance to subordinates performing similar tasks.

Supervises and coordinates the equivalent of one or more full time employees. This position assigns work, reviews performance, instructs and counsels employees on a regular basis.

Assists with staffing effectiveness utilizing leadership controls such as making recommendations on employee discipline and other human resource issues, overseeing employee activity, identifying operational issues and facilitating resolutions promoting positive morale, and ensuring staff is properly trained and appropriately guided.

Contributes to employee performance evaluations, assists in the recruitment and hiring process by interviewing, providing input, and making recommendations to administrative staff.

Assists with the implementation, evaluation and interpretation of department policies, projects and procedures.

Ensures that unit work conforms to local, state, and federal government regulations, and other applicable rules and requirements.

Oversees employees’ proper use of the time keeping system through training and supervision.

With direction from supervisor(s), manages, coordinates, and determines priorities of work load, monitors resources, establishes timelines, assigns work, monitors progress, recommends changes and provides suggestions regarding operations.

Writes, reviews and edits reports, maintain logs and approves projects.

Maintains departmental information through proper use of Cartegraph asset management system.

Provides customer service by responding to information requests, conducting research, providing solutions to problems, and correcting errors.

Oversees and assists with the maintenance and improvement of City park properties through mowing, weed trimming, tree trimming, vegetation and turf care, playground repairs, and equipment maintenance.

Supervises and assists with general cleaning and disinfecting of comfort stations, playground equipment, and park amenities.

Maintains turf and protects assets through the use of fertilizers and other pesticides, and manages preparations for events and ball field activities.

Contributes to the needs of the community by responding and City by implementing and causing others to implement the organizations goals, values and strategies by leading through example, competency, and accountability.

Responds to customer requests, conducts research, corrects errors, and provide solution to problems.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 1 year maintaining facilities and grounds

Valid and Unrestricted Class D - Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications

Certified Pesticide Applicator License

Selection Plan

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will then be invited to participate in an Written examination and Oral Board Interview process.

  • Written Exam and Oral Board Interview will be held: the week of May 24, 2021

Upon completion of all examination processes, the highest scoring applicants will be placed on an Eligibility List. An applicant's ranking on the list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:

  • 10% of your rating for education and work experience
  • 25% of your rating for written exam
  • 65% of your rating for oral board interview

Selection Interviews may be conducted post-list by the Hiring Manager.

This recruitment will establish a Civil Service Eligibility List that will be utilized to fill all vacancies occurring within the next 6 months.
