Introduction

Shoots and edits videos and creates graphic and written content for internal and external audiences, including training videos, recruiting videos, public service announcements, promotional videos and visuals for the department’s internet and intranet websites and social media platforms. Works with training, strategic communications, recruiting, public information and community engagement functions of the police department.

Essential Functions

Using video, web, photography, and social media, promotes the values and professionalism of the Tucson Police Department and educates the public on topics such as crime prevention, crime reporting, victim services, and community policing.

Shoots and edits videos for broadcast, internet, intranet, and social media platforms for internal and external audiences. Takes and modifies photographs to create visuals that tell a story. Drafts social media posts and web content.

Conducts research of other public safety videos, websites, and social media. Establishes relationships in and outside the department. Helps develop story ideas and themes. Interviews department members and members of the public.

Creates content for and helps develop and maintain department internet and intranet websites.

Working cooperatively with other staff, divisions, departments, and outside entities, researches, writes, designs, and creates advertising, marketing/recruiting, and educational video, audio, photographic, web, social media, and print content. Prepares presentation materials and reports on activities and results.

Coordinates virtual special events and photographs and videos in-person special events in cooperation with other staff, divisions, departments, and outside entities.

Performs administrative tasks such as answering messages, requesting information, running errands, scheduling, attending meetings, and completing reports.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: Bachelor's Degree

Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 4 years of experience in video production and/or web design, with minimum experience in video production being at least two (2) years (24 months).

An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position may be considered.

Special Job Requirements

This position requires passing a criminal background check and Motor Vehicle History Report.

This position requires a valid driver's license.

Employment offers are contingent upon successfully passing the above requirements.

Selection Plan

All selection plan components will be conducted virtually to the extent possible. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will then be invited to a presentation exercise.

The presentation exercise will be used to evaluate knowledge, skills, and abilities as they relate to video and web production expertise. In this exercise, you will submit a portfolio with an example of your camera, video production, and editing work.

  • Presentation Exercise will be held: April 1-8, 2021

Upon completion of the Presentation Exercise, successful applicants will be invited to participate in a Practical Assessment.

  • Practical Assessment will be held: April 26-30, 2021
Upon completion of the Practical Assessment, successful applicants will be invited to participate in an Oral Board Interview.

  • Oral Board Interviews will be held: Week of May 10, 2021

Upon completion of all examination processes, the highest scoring applicants will be placed on the Civil Service Employment List.  An applicant's ranking on the Civil Service list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:      

  • 10% of your rating for education and work experience
  • 30% of your presentation exercise
  • 35% of your practical assessment
  • 25% of your oral board interview

This recruitment will establish a civil service list that will be utilized to fill vacancies occurring within the next 6 months. Candidates placed on the civil service list may be invited to a final selection interview.

Veterans, Native American, or Disability preference points will be added to the final score for those that are placed on the Civil Service Employment List.  If you qualify for preference points as outlined in the Employment Profile, you must upload your documentation as part of the application process or email it to Randall.Moehr@tucsonaz.gov. The DD 214 must be a copy that indicates characterization of service.

The following information pertains to driving requirements for this classification with the City of Tucson. Under "Driving Level" None, Secondary or Primary, refers to the driving responsibility as it relates to the essential functions of the classification. License Type is just that, the type of Arizona Driving License required for the classification. If the position requires a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), the endorsements will be listed under "Endorsements." Under Safety Sensitive a "Yes" means employees with this classification are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. License Type A, B, C, D, or M may require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Exceptions to classification driving requirements may exist based on position.
