To remain eligible, you must maintain your permanent or probationary Civil Service employment status through the actual date of transfer. If you are not a current permanent or probationary Civil Service employee at the date of transfer, you will not be eligible for this position. Non-permanent or appointed employees are not eligible.

The Eligibility List may be used by Tucson Water to fill vacancies occurring in the next 6 months. Selection will be made in accordance with CSR III, Section 2. The list of employees eligible for consideration will remain in effect for 6 months. Examination results and current status will be communicated by email.

The Customer Service Division of the Tucson Water Department is seeking a skilled professional to fill the Water Services Supervisor position in the Metering Services Section. This position is responsible for coordinating and monitoring the safety and efficiency of service routes, billing activities, and supervising personnel who read and service water meters. This position requires considerable initiative and independent judgment in completing assignments in accordance with established standards and specifications.

General Description

Supervises personnel in the installation, repair, and servicing of water meters and related systems. Coordinates and monitors the safety and efficiency of service routes and billing activities, and serves as a liaison between departments and contractors.

Essential Functions

  • Supervises and coordinates, and the work activities of skilled trades personnel involved in water meter reading, meter maintenance, and testing
  • Processes and schedules metered routes for meter reading and billing purposes utilizing meter reading and billing software
  • Monitors work efficiency by reviewing and adjusting route sizes, incorporating expanding service areas and assisting with analyzing meter reading audit reports 
  • Schedules and assigns field work
  • Addresses escalated customer concerns or investigations in person or by email by conducting research and recommending, solutions regarding meter problems and customer issues
  • Promotes a safe work environment by providing training and direction; evaluates personnel performance, coaches and counsels employees, and recommends disciplinary actions

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: 6 months post High School

Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 2 years experience in the water system installation, repair or meter reading systems and customer service operations

Valid and Unrestricted Class D - Driver's License 

An equivalent combination of education and relevant-level experience that provides the ability to successfully perform the essential functions may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess all of the above as well as the following:

  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Five years of relevant experience involving water meter maintenance or the use of a meter reading system
  • Experience with computerized bench testing equipment
  • Experience with the principals and practices of Automated Meter Reading (AMR). 
  • Experience in data collection and analysis, and mathematical calculations

Selection Plan

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will then be invited to participate in an Oral Board interview.

  • Oral Board Interviews will be held: October 23, 2019

Upon completion of all examination processes, the highest scoring applicants will be placed on an Eligibility List.  An applicant's ranking on the list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:

  • 10% of your education and work experience
  • 90% of your oral board interview

This recruitment will establish a civil service list that may be utilized to fill vacancies occurring at Tucson Water within the next 6 months.
