City of Tucson Transportation Department is seeking a qualified Survey Crew Chief to join our diverse, vibrant, progressive and engaged workforce. The Survey Crew Chief position directs and supervises a land surveying field crew. This position requires leading a survey field crew and making skilled technical surveying decisions by using engineering construction plans and reading legal descriptions for real property and will occasionally work within a stressful construction environment. Survey Crew Chiefs oversee the collection of preliminary data for right-of-way and drainage determinations; calculate construction layout and set benchmarks & horizontal control for future design and construction projects.
This is a lead position affording guidance to other positions performing the same tasks. This lead position also reviews workloads, assigns work and coaches employees with specialized instructions and practices for job accomplishments. Lead personnel may contribute to other employees' performance evaluations, assist with the hiring process by interviewing and making recommendations and providing input to supervisory staff.
Plans, organizes, and coordinates field surveys by reviewing work orders, plans, and legal descriptions, organizing field work activities, and researching legal and survey documents.
Performs data computations and assimilates field information by calculating and verifying field data computations, preparing notes and sketches of survey work and layout, reviewing field data and results, and maintaining technical records and field notes.
Ensures accuracy and completeness of surveys by reviewing and inspecting field work and data computation, investigating and resolving routine field problems, reviewing and planning calculations and maintaining records.
Performs survey work and field tasks by setting up instruments, setting survey markers, and collecting field data.
Minimum Education Level & Type: 6 months post High School
Minimum Experienced Qualifications: At least 2 years conducting land surveys
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will then be invited to participate in a phone screen interview.
Phone Screen Interviews will be held: Tuesday, August 20, 2019.

Oral Board Interviews will be held: Friday, August 30, 2019.
